Randolph County JobLink Career Center quarterly report
Sept . 10, 2000
The Randolph County JobLink Career Center experienced a challenging and busy summer quarter , as
several key staffers were hired and a large number of new enrollments were added to the Workforce
Investment Act training rolls .
Monette Loflin was hired in September as JobLink ' s director . Loflin, an employee of Regional
Consolidated Services , has gained substantial experience operating government- funded programs . She was
previously the child development coordinator of RCS ' Head Start program in Randolph, Alamance and
Caswell counties , where she managed 70 -plus employees .
Barbara Mroczkowski retired in July as JobLink ' s director . Under her tenure , the JobLink was located at
Randolph Community College and a second, smaller JobLink facility was established at a public housing
facility on Farr Street in Asheboro .
Nancy Landis was promoted to Employment Specialist II to assume additional Workforce Investment Act
duties with the current case management staff. An additional employment specialist will be hired to take
over her case - load, and interviews have been conducted for that position .
Robin Coates was hired by Randolph Conuuunity College as Human Resource Development coordinator .
She replaces Warren Forney , who accepted employment at Georgia Tech in July . Robin has created a two .
week class for the unemployed , geared toward providing answers to questions about their career goals .
Angie Andrews was hired as customer service intake specialist, replacing Peggy Cox . Peggy graduated
from Randolph Community College ' s Information Systems program in May .
A plant closure at Jockey International in July brought 40 dislocated workers into the Randolph County
JobLink Center ' s worker training program . Most have enrolled in a six -month clerical training program
offered by Randolph Community College ; others are enrolled in a Medical Office Assistant program at
RCC and a few have enrolled in associate degree programs . JobLink staff has assisted these former
employees with transition to the classroom, course scheduling and coordination of unemployment
compensation . About 10 employees from Shaw Furniture and the John Plant Company are enrolling in
training through the Randolph County JobLink following business and plant closures at those locations
over the summer .
Over 40 WIA students were transferred from the Employment Security Commission to the Randolph
County JobLink ' s rolls in August. Many of these were displaced from Black and Decker about 18 months
ago and are nearing completion of their training .
During the Month of August, the Randolph County JobLink ' s RCC location served 257 clients . The Farr
Street affiliate site served 109 clients . Both sites served clients with services such as WIA case
management, welfare to work case management, job searches , resume assistance , career interest testing and
labor market information . The affiliate site ' s lease with the Asheboro Housing Authority was also renewed
for another year .
A career fair for mid-November is currently being planned by JobLmk staff.
