HomeMy WebLinkAboutNursing Home CAC minutes 090319Orange County Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes, Sept 3, 2019 5:30pm, Seymour Center, Chapel Hill, NC CALL TO ORDER by Vibeke Talley, Chair • Members Present: Vibeke Talley (Chair) Martha Bell, Jackie Podger , Jerry Ann Gregory, Autumn Cox (Ombudsman), Bill Morgan, Annie Deaver (Orange County Department on Aging, DOA ), Carol Kelly, Stephanie Boswell • Members Absent: Stephanie Miller • Visitor: Linda Davis, Applicant for Membership OLD BUSINESS; • Discussion/Approval Minutes July 9, 2019: Minutes approved as written. NEW BUSINESS • Membership: o Ms. Linda Davis, RN was introduced as an applicant for committee membership. Ms. Davis spoke about her sense of advocacy for the elderly and other elements of her background. After she left the meeting, current committee members agreed she is an excellent candidate for our committee and asked that her application be forwarded to our County Commissioners for final approval. o Vibeke continued to emphasize the importance of recruiting possible new members due to continued vacancies. We currently have 4 vacancies. • 2020 Meeting Schedule. o Following lengthy discussion from all members present, written ballots were compiled with the decision to begin quarterly committee meetings starting in the New Year. The decision was based on several factors including coordination with the Adult Care Home group which meets prior to our sessions. o We will continue to meet the 1st Tuesday of the designated months at 5:30pm here at the Seymour Center. Members acknowledged meetings could likely be longer (90 minutes) with prompt site visit reports still required. o The 2020 meeting dates are: February 4; May 5; August 4; November 3. Members agreed this to be a trial year and will be reviewed at the November 2020 meeting. • Site Visit Reports: o Brookshire: Accepted as submitted; of particular note is the ongoing Activities Calendar for all residents. Follow up topics will include transition to new management, water pitchers in rooms and meal satisfaction with possible changes under new management. o Pruitt Carolina Point: At the edit interview with the NHA we were informed that the newly appointed DON lasted only a week and they are again entering the interview process; a new Social Worker has been hired. Repeated concerns re: food choices and fresh water at the bedside. Other areas of concern noted will have follow-up reviews at the next visit. o Parkview: Accepted as written o Signature: Accepted as written. o Carol Woods: Accepted as written with the following concerns: resident safety due inability to reach fallen call bell, but no response from facility desk at 5am; resident had to reach outside the facility to reach someone to assist her. NHA and DON aware and complaint registered with next level. Additionally, unlocked med carts; HIPAA issue (reports with names and care plan information left on common room table). All issues reported to NHA and DON. • Ombudsman Report (Autumn Cox, Ombudsman) o Visits/Complaints: as noted in above site visit reports. o Leadership training scheduled for October 23, 2019; further registration and content will be forthcoming. o Activity reports due September 20th. • Department on Aging (Annie Deaver) o New Staff Member: Alison Smith, Transportation Specialist o EngAGE Class: 13 week class for senior leaders will be started this month.. o Aging Advisory Board: Recruitment continues. • Reminders: o Quarterly Activity Reports Due: Sep 20, 2019 o Quarterly Site Visits due when completed; please provide to both the Ombudsman and Committee Chair o Next meeting: November 5, 2019.
