HomeMy WebLinkAboutAdult Care Home CAC minutes 090319Orange County Adult Home Care Community Advisory Committee Meeting held 4:00 pm on September 3, 2019 at Seymour Center In Attendance: Alison Brown, Autumn Cox, Karen Green-McElveen, Annie Deaver, Shade Little, Mary Lou Gelblum, Bill Morgan, Olivia Fisher Absent: Michael Zuber, Tiketha Collins Triangle J Council of Governments Report: Triangel J annual leadership training will be held on Wednesday October 23rd. Committees throughout region will be in attendance. Email Autumn if interested. No cost. CEUs. Autumn will send out flyers from Friends of Residents in Long Term Care with Fall event if interested in attending. Autumn encourages members to look into getting on email list. Department of Aging Report: Lisa Burley, transportation specialist had last day. Allison Smith replaced her for the Transitions program. Larger announcement they are targeting older adults of color to join the Aging Board in effort to be more diverse. Meetings are held at Seymour and Passmore. 55-60+ People are required to attend meetings monthly and advise on Master Aging Plan. Residents of OC. Two seats are open. Two year commitment. Project Engage classes are starting. Senior leaders attend 13 week training on community involvement, in and outs of local stakeholders, learn about available programs. They will then lead one of thirteen senior leadership teams. 13 new members will embed themselves in Senior Resource Teams. Goal to keep ears to the ground to build teams based on need and interests in the community. Teams focused in LTC, LGBTQ, community advocacy. Department of Aging guides on an administrative level. If people are interested, Annie will bring information on next session. Sometime in the first quarter. Exact date not determined. Facility Reports: Autumn handed out pamphlets on Resident Rights with Ombudsmen contact info. Crescent Green- Discussion of food choices? Lack of security. Staff are not required to have any of the doors in the building locked as visitors are welcome. Follow up questions-open doors. Lack of meal preference/options. No comment on personal care provided. Emailing Michael for clarification. Received, pending approval. Brookdale: Correct line 9 and 10 to “no”, it was reported that no concerns on visit. Note that there is no power generators. Brookdale tends to lose power first in the county. Local administrators are pushing corporate for a generator. Last snow storm, power was lost at 5pm, had to physically carry people up to their rooms. No power for 5-6 days. The Stratford: No time restriction on piano, and a resident plays the same song throughout the day on the piano next to a resident room. He has talked with staff and that has not been resolved. Wait for coffee in the morning. Administration looking into. Exited with Medina Bell (resident care coordinator). Another resident reported wanting lunch earlier/people running out of food on the menu and making food sandwiches. All visitors had a sense that the building should be checked more thoroughly for mold. Per Autumn, the county and state have been in more frequently on account of a fire. The county has found issues with bed bugs, staff have had in-services due to being out of compliance. Carol Woods: Ombudsmen information is still incorrect. Wrong name, right number. Autumn will send more stickers. Committee complimentary of care of provided in the facility. Carillon: One complaint was related to meals. Resident expressed wanting more choices on the menu. There was a flickering light that was distressing. They are addressing it. Unlocked storage room that lock had been taped over to not engage. Administrator removed it and will address with staff. Adorable Senior Living: Food not great quality. Activity calendar posted. Cinder block walls/faux wood floors. Committee reports that the care provided was good and staff seemed to genuinely care about residents. 14 hours of activities planned weekly in assisted living. Cedar Grove Family Care Home: State Survey this week Residents eat meals in one home based on resident preference. There are 6 residents in one home, six in the other. Motion to approve visitation reports was made by Alison. The motion was seconded by Karen and approved by the committee. Upcoming Required visits: Charles House by September 20th. Visits are scheduled for the 17th. New Business: Vice Chair Volunteer-duties include assisting chair in running the meetings. Preparing packet and agendas. Bill volunteered to serve as Vice Chair. DHS Liaison Volunteer- No one in attendance volunteered for the role Leadership Development Training Fall Conference NCALA October 8-10-Flyer Ask About Attendance. Next Meeting Topics: -Bylaws -2020 meeting schedule -Participation expectations-doing visits, attend meetings. Alison adjourned 4:56pm.
