Report from the Ombudsman – Charlotte Terwilliger • Charlotte reported that the administrator position at Carolina House has turned over. Currently it is unfilled. • There is also turn-over in administration at The Stratford. • Carillon AL passed its most recent survey without any deficiencies but is experiencing low census on the assisted living side. • The census at Crescent Green is also low at present. • Charlotte reminded us that committee members are required to get the resident’s consent before reporting abuse by a facility to DSS unless it was observed directly by the volunteer. Under these circumstances, the committee member is encouraged to discuss the complaint with the Ombudsman before reporting any further. • Charlotte provided information about Resident Right #4 – to be free of mental and physical abuse, neglect and exploitation and handed out an article on elder maltreatment. Committee members requested further training in elder abuse in long- term care. Report from the Department on Aging – Mary Fraser • The OCDOA Long-term Care Learning Collaborative continues to focus on the implementation of the music and memory program (Music in My Mind-Orange County) this year. Carol Woods, Carolina House, the Stratford, Livewell, Charles House, and the Villines are in various stages of implementation. Mary asked the members of the visitation teams to ask the administrators from all assisted living and family care homes visited about their progress in offering personalized music to their residents. • The OCDOA is sponsoring a Direct Care Worker Award program to recognize outstanding direct care workers who serve older adults in Orange County. Nomination forms can be found on the OCDOA website. The deadline for submission is March 31, 22015. Visitation Reports • Crescent Green – approved Housekeeping • Max will assign new members to site visit teams once their orientation training is complete • Visitation Team leaders were reminded to contact their team members each quarter to schedule their required visits. • Visitation rotation patterns will be discussed at the next meeting. It was suggested that the teams stay in place for at least one year. Then members could be invited to switch to a different team.
