HomeMy WebLinkAboutAdult Care Home Adv Bd Meeting Minutes 112014Orange County Adult Care Home Community Advisory Meeting Minutes November 20, 2014 Meeting Convened Meeting called to order at 3:30 PM at the Central Orange Senior Center in Hillsborough NC by President, Max Mason Attendance Members: Max Mason- Chair Jack Vogt – Vice-Chair Joyce Teston – Member Dan Hatley – Member Debbie Rider – Member Mario Battigelli – Member James Bartow– Member Charlotte Terwilliger - Ombudsman Mary Fraser – Department on Aging liaison Guests: Renee Price – Orange County Commissioner Suzanne Haff – Committee candidate Yvonne Mendenhall – Committee candidate Deborah Stewart – Committee candidate Minutes March 20, 2014 Minutes of the July meeting were not available. They will be approved at the January 2015 meeting. Guest Introductions Max introduced Commissioner Price and the three candidates for Committee membership and provided an overview of the Adult Care Home Advisory Committee purpose and activities. Report from the Ombudsman – Charlotte Terwilliger • Charlotte reported that the Triangle J AAA hosted a leadership training in September on system advocacy. Joyce Teston was able to attend. • She handed out the list of legislative priorities from the Senior Tar Heel Legislature and distributed an article on person-centered care entitled "The Eden Alternative Domains of Well-Being." Report from the Department on Aging – Mary Fraser • The OCDOA Long-term Care Learning Collaborative is focusing on the implementation of the music and memory program (Music in My Mind-Orange County) this year. All nursing homes, assisted living and family care homes were invited to participate in this year’s Long-term Care Quality Service Award process by implementing and documenting their progress with this program. Eight organizations submitted applications – but Carol Woods and Carolina House were the only assisted living facilities that applied. • Even though Crescent Green and the Stratford did not apply for the 2015 Quality Service Award, the OCDOA will continue to reach out to them to support implementation of the Music in My Mind program. Britney Wiggins, a OCDOA student intern assigned to this project, will show the DVD Alive Inside three times at the Stratford next Friday as an in-service training and outreach to family members. • Mary asked the members of the visitation teams to ask the administrators from all assisted living and family care homes visited about their progress in offering personalized music to their residents. CAC Annual Report Max handed out a draft of the required report and asked for feedback before Dec 1, 2014.
