PURPOSE: To consider making new appointments to the Economic Development Commission..
BACKGROUND: The term of Charlie Fisher will expire on 06/30/2005. He does not wish to be
reappointed. The Chambers of Commerce recommends that Anita Badrock be moved from her
At-Large position into the Chambers of Commerce position, If the Board desires, this will create
a vacant position, The EDG wishes to recommend Mark Crowell to fill the vacant position.
The term of James Walker will also expire on 06/30/2005, however he is ineligible for
reappointment. The EDC wishes to recommend Lauri Michel to fill the new vacant position.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION(S): Consider making new appointments to the Economic Development
Commission, as the Board may desire.

Dear Ms. Evans;
As you know, the Economic Development Commission has two at-large vacancies after
Anita Badrock assumes the Chambers' recommended position. We respectfully suggest
that Lauri Michel and Mark Crowell be appointed to fill these slots,
Ms. Michel is the current chair of the Hillsborough Tourism Board and will represent the
interests of Hillsborough businesses to the EDC. Mark Crowell heads the UNC Office of
Technology Transfer and will help establish a stronger link with UNG spinofF businesses.
We would like to bring to your attention attendance issues with two other members: Eric
Tillman and Russ Seibert. Mr. Tillman has missed the last three meetings without
calling. Mr. Seibert has serious back problems and has not been able to attend for many
months. if the Board chooses to replace these two individuals, we would suggest ,lames
Stroud, a Mortgage Account Executive with Bank of America for one slot. We would ask
that the other slot remain open so that we can advertise for farmer representation.

My affection for Chapel Hill evolved during my college years here, It wasn't the students,
necessarily or the nightlife. Instead it was the town, neighborhoods, and the small
business owners and everything else that distinguishes Chapel Hill, My primary purpose
in wanting to serve on the Historic Preservation Commission is that I have an
understanding of the needs as well as the constraints that must be imposed in such an

South Carolina in a historic district there. During my tenure in college I was a member of
the Ginghaul Castle, so I know that neighborhood as well. This is something that I would
