PURPOSE: To give the BOCC the opportunity to discuss the Library Services Task Force
Report.
BACKGROUND: In June 2000, the BOCC created the Library Task Force to study library
services in the county and prepare a draft plan for Orange County libraries by April 2001.
Commissioner Barry Jacobs serves as Chair for this Task Force.
A group of approximately 14 people comprised of township representatives, friends, groups,
elected officials, and Chapel Hill and Orange County library staff members began meeting in
October 2000 and have met monthly to date.
The results of those meetings were presented as a Preliminary Report to the BOCC in order to
obtain comments from members of the Board.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact associated with discussion of the
Library Services Task Force Preliminary Report.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board discuss the Preliminary
Report County and provide direction to staff on future steps.
