PURPOSE: To enter into a contract with Orange County Raceway Inc (Kartway) to provide
EMS coverage at races and events.
BACKGROUND; The County has contracted with the Kartway in past years to provide and
ensure adequate emergency medical coverage at certain races and events. This is the same
arrangement as in past years based on the type of event and the probability of injuries.
This season, the Raceway will conduct approximately 13 events that require medical coverage.
The coverage is provided at the basic EMT level with one ambulance and crew assigned to the
events.
The rate is $45 per hour while on duty at the event, plus 1-hour to cover travel to and from the
event. Patients requiring treatment and transport are charged at the standard rate for those
services. There is no County paramedic assigned to these events; however, one will respond
at the request of the ambulance crew.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The rates charged cover all county cost, including the personnel, vehicle
and indirect costs.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the Contract
authorize the Chair to sign.
