Box 8181 Hillsborough,NC 27278 Re: Board Appointments Dear Chair Rich, The Orange County Human Relations Commission (HRC) recommends Brenda Amezquita- Castro to fill Vacancy #4 (at-large), Tomeka Ward-Satterfield to fill Vacancy #6 (at-large), and Dion Graham to fill Vacancy#12 (at-large). Ms. Amezquita-Castro's background in racial equity work and her knowledge of community building align with goals and priorities of the HRC. Her experience in these areas, as well as her identity as a Hispanic female, will bring an important perspective to the HRC that is currently underrepresented. Ms. Ward-Satterfield demonstrates skills in facilitating community discussions and training on equity, which would be beneficial for the HRC's frequent community conversations. Her particular interest in equity in education will better guide the HRC on challenges faced in the schools in this county and help strategize an approach aligned with the HRC's mission. Mr. Graham is a long time resident of Orange County, and is involved with several organizations with ties to diversity and inclusion. I also organized the Financial Literacy Month program for University Wellness, ensuring students had access to financial resources that aren t offered in the classroom. Before college, I was a member of the NC SAVE club at my school, which enacted recycling on campus and raised funds to protect the rainforest via the Rainforest Trust. For my Eagle Scout project, I collected over 13,000 books for reuse in schools by Books for Africa. About 1,500 books were not in great enough condition for donation, but were recycled with the help of Habitat for Humanity. Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: I began working in Orange County in October and want to serve on this board to help ensure environmental protection of this beautiful area and to champion environmental stewardship in the Orange County community.
