Colocation
Hurricane Dorian threatened Orange County to open a colocation shelter, but it did not end up
happening.
Many staff volunteers sign up to work the colocation shelter, Durham shelter, and were willing
to locate to an affected area in NC for a 5 day mission.
Spay and Neuter Reports
We received the Petrie Grant for $17,720 to support grant will be used to subsidize the cost of
spay/neuter services to a larger segment of the population through the department’s
spay/neuter program, thereby reducing pet overpopulation even further in Orange County. It
will cover households that have an income between 200% and 400% of Federal Poverty
guidelines.
We received the Petco Foundation Grant for $40,000 to support the working barn cat program.
Recently spoke with SNAP about doing a spay/neuter day for just OCAS clients barn cats. We
would have to pay the minimum for using the van, so it is imperative to get enough cats trapped
the day of spay/neuter.
IAR has been sent a sample contract for doing spays and neuters for us and we are waiting to
hear back on if it is a possibility to use them for s/n
