What’s on the Horizon? / Long Range Parks and Recreation Plans A. Town of Chapel Hill; Linda Smith – • Just finished resurfacing of 2 soccer fields at Southern Park with artificial turf • New roof on Hargraves Center • New summer camp partnership with schools • Bolin Creek Trail – Coal ash delayed project will start back in May B. Town of Carrboro; Jones McNair – • Working with Planning Dept. on Comprehensive Plan which will include Parks Master Plan and Greenway Master Plan • Partnering with Housing on a pop-up community event • Partnering with other departments on purchasing a party trailer to serve as a community outreach meeting space • MLK Park- First Master Plan 2004; redone in 2014; 2017 Developed construction drawings; construction started late Dec 2018. Amenities include; two pump tracks; community garden; amphitheater; walking track; playground and a pollinator garden C. Town of Hillsborough; Stephanie Trueblood • Expanded parking area at Kings Highway Park • Completed master plans for all town parks • Stamped downtown crosswalks • Stream buffer naturalization projects at Turnip Patch and Murray Street Parks • Calvin Street tree project • Purchased a weed steamer D. Orange County; Marabeth Carr • Egg Hunt is this Friday • Earth Evening 4/26 in River Park • Fishing Rodeo 5/1 at Blackwood farm park • Summer Camps are completely full E. City of Mebane; Cy Stober • One year ago acquired 54 ac farm for a future Cates Farm Park • Lake Michael –complete trail around lake • Community Park now opened and is very popular • Natural Fitness Campaign - $30,000 grant from Impact Alamance • Holt St Park added a new shelter • Working on a Bike and Ped Plan F. Others; UNC; Bill Goa • Added Bike Trails near Country Club • New disc golf • $600,000 wetlands restoration grant • Doubled size of ropes course 5.
