Beginning time of meeting: 6:40 pm
Report of the Chairs:
a. Council Vacancies – It was noted that the council has vacancies for the Chapel Hill town limits
and the Chapel Hill and Hillsborough township positions. Advertisements have been posted in
the papers and the Council will work to distribute copies in various locations.
b. Communication from Board of Commissioners – A letter from the BOCC was received by the
chairs recently. The council was thanked for their work in specific areas.
c. The joint meeting notes had been distributed by email and were approved for distribution to
the participating groups.
d. The Friends of Central Orange Senior Center has an opening for a Parks and Rec liaison, but
since the meetings are held during the workday, there was no interest from members of the
council.
Report of the Director:
a. The council was reminded of the opening for Fairview Park scheduled for 2 pm on
Saturday, April 9.
b. It was reported that the budget process was well underway with spending held at or below
levels from the current budget year.
c. DEAPR is planning to begin a master plan update process for Little River Park. Staff will
hold internal meetings and provide updates to the advisory boards. The process is
expected to begin in May or June.
d. Lori reported on two recent items related to Eurosport Soccer Center.
Committee Reports:
Friends Group – Denise and Allan are working together on this through email.
PARC Goals – Some of the current goals have already been completed. It was reported that
a plan will be presented to the BOCC for a new Master Parks and Recreation Plan.
New Business:
Allan added an item to the agenda – Discussion of the future Bingham Township Park. Allan
reported on some outreach he has begun and some questions that have been raised. This topic will
be put back on the agenda at the next meeting.
