Topic A Approval of March minutes

Topic B: Landfill Life/Community Improvement Issues
Wilson initiated discussion of future of landfill and community improvements to the
adjoining community. Various issues were raised about future interlocal agreements,
what constitutes the boundaries of the adjoining community subject to improvements,
how such improvements might be funded and which jurisdiction or jurisdictions are to be
responsible for the decisions and the funding. No decisions or recommendations were
made, pending Board of County Commissioners further discussion of a decision-making
process.

Topic C: Programs and Services Update:
Pollock reported that the two recent Shred A Thons recycled 40,000 pounds of
confidential paper collected from residents and small businesses, the most ever
recorded from these events. The next Shred A Thon is October 13 in Chapel Hill.
Pollock reported that the County has been offered two recycling grants from the NC
Division of Environmental Assistance and Outreach (NCDAEO). One is to aid in
purchase of a baler to replace the current old baler and the second is for three roll-off
containers to haul tear-off shingles to a paving company for recycling into asphalt.
Wilson described the 2011/12 budget process and announced that the manager had not
yet delivered his proposed budget to the BOCC and that is scheduled for May 17.
