Bryan, Lori Eichel, Jim Kitchen, Karen McAdams, Keia McLamb, Mark O’Neal, Mark Sherburne, Nicholas Thomas, Tom Underwood Orange County Staff: Steve Brantley, Yvonne Scarlett Absent: Delores Bailey Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 8:10 by D.R. Bryan, Chair. Welcome Remarks - Kristin Smith, Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce Ms. Smith welcomed the group and provided an overview of the Chambers services. Approval of May 13, 2013 Minutes MOTION by Tom Underwood to approve the May 13, 2013 minutes; second by Mark O’Neal. Minutes were approved unanimously. Old Business Communications plan - Jim Kitchen presented a draft communications plan. Discussion included:  Definition of economic development  Role/definition of “economic development advisory board”  “Net new” and how the term can be controversial  Focus goal on tax base diversification  Economic Development Districts  Strong economic development policy (clear and consistent message) – will allow success  Form advocacy group to address the positives when projects are announced  Housing industry contribution to tax base Director’s Report - Steve Brantley Mr. Brantley provided an update of active projects. Personnel changes:  Ellen Tai has been hired as the Economic Development Specialist and will begin July 15, 2013  Noah Ranells (Ag Economic Development Coordinator) has resigned to take a position with NC A&T; effective July 12, 2013.
