HomeMy WebLinkAboutCFE minutes 101110 FROM: Commission for the Environment SUBJECT: Monthly Meeting DATE: October 11, 2010 LOCATION: Environment and Agricultural Center (Hillsborough) _____________________________________________________________________________________________ MEMBERS PRESENT: Bill Kaiser (Chair), Renee Price (Vice Chair), Chris Adams, May Becker, Peter Cada, Michelle Drostin, Loren Hintz, Michael Hughes, David Neal, Tom O’Dwyer, Gary Saunders, David Welch MEMBERS ABSENT: Lucy Adams, Lynnette Batt, Clay Hudson STAFF PRESENT: David Stancil, Rich Saw and Tom Davis _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Beginning time of meeting: 7:30 p.m. I. Call to Order II. Additions or Changes to Agenda Hintz requested adding an information item re environmental education to the Updates and Information section of the agenda. Approved. III. Approval of Minutes Saunders motioned to approve the September 13 meeting summary as written. Motion seconded by Price. Approved unanimously. The CFE asked that staff also provide short summaries of any substantive discussion for pertinent items. IV. Introduction of New Members Five of the seven newly-appointed CFE members were present. They introduced themselves, identified issues of particular interest, and potential committee assignments The CFE discussed the four standing committees, and decided to change the Environmental Education Committee to the Energy Resources Committee. V. Resolutions of Appreciation Staff presented draft resolutions for three former CFE members who had served as Co-Chairs during their tenure: J. Randall, M. Kempinski, and D. Santoianni. The CFE voted unanimously in favor of adopting the resolutions. VI. Annual Report and Work Plan Staff presented preliminary draft annual report and work plan for CFE consideration. CFE members recommended several additional items. Shaw to prompt members to send additional thoughts/language by email. Shaw to prepare revised draft for CFE consideration at November meeting. VII. Updates and Information Items Staff provided updates on various issues previously discussed by CFE (Festifall, Orange Well Net, Unified Development Ordinance, and UNC Bingham Facility) and information on other topics of interest (Solar Array at Orange Co.
