PURPOSE: To proclaim the week of April 23-May 9, 2001 as Orange County Senior Games
Events Days and to encourage citizens age 55 and over to participate.
BACKGROUND: The first Orange County Senior Games were held in May 1988 with 69
participants in athletic events ranging from softball throw to tennis and 100 Orange County
citizen volunteers. In the years since 198$, the numbers have steadily grown, as more
emphasis has been placed on year round programming and new events were added. Each of
the 150 plus participants benefit greatly from participation in the games.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The financial impact is accounted for in the county budget in the
allocated funds for designated staff of the Department on Aging and Recreation and Parks
Department who work with this program.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board of County Commissioners
proclaim and declare April 23-May 9, 2001 as Orange County Senior Games Events Days.

PROCLAMATION
Orange County Senior Games
Whereas, According to recent population figures, there are more than 18,734
persons over 55 years of age in Orange county; and,
Whereas, Orange county is concerned about the health, fitness, and social
Well-being of its mature adult population; and,
Whereas, Orange County Senior Games provides a special opportunity for mature
Adults to grow positively in the areas of health, fitness and social well-being;
. And,
Whereas, Orange County would like to encourage local businesses and resident
support and participation from county residents age 55 and older;
NOW, BE IT THEREFORE PROCLAIMED, that the Orange County Boazd of
Commissioners declare Apri123 -May 9, 2001 as
ORANGE COUNTY SENIOR GAMES EVENTS DAYS
AND ENCOURAGES CITIZENS AGE S5 AND OVER TO PARTICIPATE.
