Thank you for your petition requesting that the Board recite the Pledge of Allegiance at each meeting of the
Board of Orange County Commissioners.
The Pledge of Allegiance represents an expression of loyalty and devotion to the Flag of the United States
and to the Republic of the United States of America. Each Commissioner makes a pledge of loyalty and
fidelity to the Constitution of the United States and to the Constitution of the State of North Carolina when
they take the Oath of Office at the beginning of each term. This obligation is perpetual during a
Commissioner's service to the County and satisfies the spirit of your petition.
Consistent with your request to share this response publicly, it will be included as an "Information Item" in
the agenda packet for the October 15 business meeting.
