Minutes of the Hoard of Commisaionare
August 3, 1959
The Orange County Board of Commieaionere met 1n regular session on Monday, Augnst 3, 1959, at
t® o'clock a.m. in the Commissioners' room at the courtbouse in Hillsboro, N. C.
Members present: Chairman R. J. M. Hobbs, Coami.saloners Clarence Jones, Donald McDade,
Donald Stanford and Henry Walker.
Members absent: Nona
Minutes of the previous meeting xere read by the Clerk and approved by the Hoard after a
fee minor corrections.
The following Department Officials presented reports for the month of July, 1.959.
FraNc Frederick, Delinquent Tax Collector
E. M. Iynch, Clark of Court
Cashe Boggs, County Dog Warden
Bonnie Davis, Negro Name Demonstration Agent
Walter Wrenn, 4aterens Service Officer and
Jane Pazker Welfare Supt.
Mrs. Parker brou;ht to the attention of the Board a matter concerning Joe Ashley, oho is an
old age recipient. Mr. Ashley had requested permission to sell certain portions of his
property which is nett covered try a county lien. The Hoard agreed to have some of it's members
inspect Mr. Ashley's property in order to ascertain the proper value of same.
A letter from Pear eon Stewart, Vice President in charge of Flamd.ng, for the Research Triabgla
Park, ores read by Chairman Hobbs. Mr. Stewart requested that the Hoard appoint a repzasarrtative to
serve on the Research Triangle Regional Planning Coamission.
Upon motion of Commissioner McDade, aecoMed by Commissioner Walker, and unanimously adopted
Don B. Matheson was appointed to serve a 4 year term effective July 1, 1959, on the Reseazch
Triangle Regional Pla^ni n9 Commfesioa.
Jesse S. Nwdlle of Chapel Nill requested that a culvert Which xas installed sweral gears
age bg the State Highway Commission on his Sarw be raised to insure proper drainage. Mr. Nev111s
iffiorned the Board that he bad made a similar request about tiro years ago but as of this date
nothing bad been done to remedy the ai.tuation. Commissioner Walker suggested that the Highway
Commission ba contacted and urged that Mr. Neville's problem should have proper consideration
and iS possible 6e should be given s®e re]S.we of the situation which Hart exist.
There being no further business this meeting ores adjourned to meet again on Thursday, August
13th for the purpose of canvassing the vote which is being Geld on Tuesday, August llth, in
the White Cross Community to determine whether or not the White Cross School District will
loin xith the Chapel Nall City Administrative Unit.

August 13, 1959
The Orange County Board of CommlasLonera met in adjourned session on Thursday, August 13,
at ll o'clock a.m. ds the Commissioners' room at the courthouse in Nillsboro, N. C.
Members presents Chairman H. J. M. Hobbs, Commissioners Clarence Jones, Donald McDade,
d Stanford and Nenry Walker.
Members absent: Nova
Tha purpose of this meeting was to canvass the returns of the special election which was
held on Tuesday, August ll, 1959, in the White Cross School District.
Mrs. Thomas Y. Tear, Hegistraz of said election, was present and rendered her report to
the Hoard. At the conclusion of her report Commissioner McDade moved that the report be
accepted. this motion received a seond from Commissioner Stanford. Chairman Hobbs observing
the fait that the time for the carcass was at head and that no persons wore present to ob3ect
to the report of the Registrar called for a vote upon the motion. There rare h ayes and O aayes.
Chairman Hobbs than declared the motion duly passed.
Tha County Accountant was instructed to forvrard the bill submitted by Mrs. Teer and the
officials oT said election to the Supt. of the Chapel Hill School Hoard.
There being no further business this meeting was ad~ovrned.
