Board Members present: Fred Joiner, Chair, Delia Keefe, Secretary, Tinka Jordy,Vice Chair, Dan Mayer, Linda
Williamson, Marcelo Slade, Ashley Nissler, Bronwyn Merritt, Marlon Torres, Justin Haslett, Doris Friend,
Rachael Despard
Board Members absent: Anita Mills, Tim Hoke, Chris Kubica
Staff Present: Katie Murray, Executive Director
I. Fred called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
a. Doris moved, Ashley seconded to approve the May, 2019. Motion approved.
II. Advisory Board Update:
a. UNC student, Rachael Despard,joined us for this meeting and all present introduced
themselves to her.
b. Katie stated that the board we cannot carry motions from one meeting to another.
c. Katie also stated that the board cannot vote over email.
III. Director's Report:
a. Katie thinks the formulation of a 501(c)3 partnership with OCAC will have many benefits such as
easing the means to accept donations and support and facilitating negotiations. She is
continuing discussions with this goal in mind.
b. Katie and Fred had a very positive conversation with the owner of Eno Mill regarding converting
vacant space into art space.
c. Katie emphasized the importance of promoting the establishment of substantial artists' space
beyond pop-ups.
d. A social networking event is in the planning stages.
e. The first professional development class for artists has sold out. The second class is filling up.
IV. Grants:
a. All applications need to conform to the standard set. The process will be selective and
competitive. Panel meetings are not yet scheduled.
V. Liaison Reports:
a. UNC/Chapel Hill Arts Commission/UNC Playmakers -Justin
i. Funds have been allocated to install an artistic flood-water management structure on
Elliott Rd.
ii. The Forest Theater is being studied for renovation.
b. Hillsborough Arts Council—Doris
i. The Hillsborough Arts Council in partnership with C3 is providing artists' space for 4
artists at $300 per month with a years lease. C3 will manage this.
ii. Options for Paperhand Parade storage space are being discussed.
iii. The strategic plan and budget have been approved.
c. The Arts Center/Carrboro Arts Committee—Dan
i. Summer season is starting.
ii. High school students get service learning hours for their work at TAC.
iii. Some summer shows are booked. 10x10 is coming back.
iv. Next year's shows will be announced by July.
v. There will be a visual artists' collaboration in August.
Dan made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Ashley and Justin seconded. Fred adjourned the meeting at 7:43
p.m.
