On this basis, the ASAB unanimously recommends that the Board of County Commissioners reappoint two of these individuals and extend the term of a third member by one year. These board members are:  Lee Pickett, V.M.D.who is recommended for reappointment to the community veterinarian position. As with her original recommendation, the ASAB’s recommendation is based upon her strong and clear interest in serving the community; her professional education, practice and accomplishment including experience with shelter veterinary medicine; and her prior experience with animal organizations as a leader as well as a companion animal veterinarian.  Edmund Tiryakian who is recommended for reappointment to an at large position. This recommendation is based upon Mr. Tiryakian’s continuing contribution to the proceedings of the ASAB as a very active board member. He has served actively as a member of several ASAB task forces. In addition, he is one of the three ASAB members who chair appeal hearings for dangerous dog declarations and other matters. • Beth Groom, DDS, who is recommended for a one year extension in the animal trainer position. This recommendation is being made because reappointment is not an option because Dr. Groom’s first term was partial but longer than two years. It is based upon her continuing contribution to the proceedings of the ASAB and most especially, her participation in the Animal Services Hearing Panel Pool as one of the three ASAB members who chairs appeal hearings for dangerous dog declarations and other matters. The ASAB believes it is in the best interest of Animal Services for her to term to be extended given that her involvement in the appeal process helps to assure proper adjudication and stability in what is still a relatively new process. In fact, the ASAB believes it would be best interest of Animal Services to reappoint her to a full three year term for that reason and wishes it was possible to do so. 4 ASAB Reappointment Recommendations May 22, 2019 Page 2 Please don’t hesitate to let me know if there is a need for additional information. cc: Donna Baker, Clerk, Board of County Commissioners Maureane Hoffman, Ph.D., MD, Chair, Animal Services Advisory Board Molly Mullin, Ph.D., Vice Chair, Animal Services Advisory Board 5 Volunteer Application Orange County Advisory Boards and Commissions Lee Pickett Page 1 of 2 Home Address:3617 Laurel Creek Way Township of Residence: Eno Zone of Residence: Ethnic Background:white Sex:Female Phone (Day):610-223-5850 Phone (Evening):610-223-5850 Phone (Cell):610-223-5850 Email:vet@askthevetspets.com Name:Dr. Lee Pickett Boards/Commissions applied for: Durham NC 27712 Other Comments: Place of Employment: self-employed (various locations) Job Title:companion animal veterinarian/relief veterinarian Name Called: Year of OC Residence:2016 Community Activities/Organizational Memberships: Volunteer for Orange County Animal Services and Sheriff s Office Member, Durham Friends (Quaker) Meeting Past Service on Orange County Advisory Boards: none Supplemental Questions: Boards/Commissions appointments: Animal Services Advisory Board Background, education and experience relevant to this board: I am a companion animal veterinarian with experience in shelter medicine.
