PURPOSE: To present award checks to Orange County arts organizations receiving 2000-01
Grassroots Arts Grants and Orange Arts Grants.
BACKGROUND: The Orange County Arts Commission, as an approved Designated County
Partner (DCP), subgrants Grassroots Grants to local arts organizations, with funding provided
by the North Carolina Arts Council Grassroots Arts Program. The Arts Commission also funds
local organizations and artists through the Orange Arts Grants, with funding provided by Orange
County through the BOCC. Funds for arts programming reflect the racial and cultural diversity of
Orange County. Each organization receiving a grant matches that granted amount with local
dollars in order to receive an award in a 1:1 ratio.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Grassroots Grant funds ($27,140.50) are provided by the North Carolina
Arts Council for distribution by the Arts Commission. No Orange County funds are used for
Grassroots Grants. Orange Arts Grant funds ($16,140) are provided by Orange County and
distributed by the Arts Commission. (Total to be distributed for 2000-01: $43,280.50.)
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board acknowledge the local
recipients of the awards during the January 18, 2001 meeting with the presentation of checks
by the Chair.
