Call In: Yvonne Mendenhall, Nancy McCormick, William “Will” Lang, and Tiketha Collins Excused Absence: Max Mason Prospective Member: William Morgan Guests: None Minutes To be Approved Tuesday, March 5, 2019 ACTION/OUTCOME Welcome Michael Zuber, Chair M. Zuber called the meeting to order.  M. Zuber asked prospective member to please introduce himself.  William Morgan shared his background that he recently moved from Baltimore MD to Chapel Hill. He worked with people living with disabilities and human right has been a big concern of his. He shared other personal concerns once he became a caregiver for someone who was in a nursing home for an extended period of time. He wants to enroll in UNC CH SWK MSW program.  M. Zuber asked committee members to please introduce themselves and why they joined the committee.  The meeting was called to order at 4:05 pm.  ACTION ITEM Approval of November 6, 2018 Committee Meeting Minutes Michael Zuber, Chair  M. Zuber asked if anyone has any suggestions or corrections for the November 6, 2018 meeting minutes.  No comments or corrections.  G. Brown motioned that the November 6, 2018 Committee minutes be approved.  S. Little seconded the motion.  The full committee approved the motion. Triangle J Council of Governments Autumn Cox, Orange County Ombudsman  A. Cox stated that things have been quiet with Orange County Assisted Family and Family Care homes.  Carillon was spraying indoor insulation to preventive maintenance for winter protections.  Carolwoods had State inspection and has not received the final report but as soon as she does she will get it to the committee.  Visited Crescent green has week and had a great visit as the facility was extremely clean and  The full committee approved the minutes. 2 the residents had a great Christmas and were upbeat.  The Stratford a resident complaint about not receiving her mail on time, a couple food concerns, one of our Nursing Home members Jackie P. will be the new Activities Director at The Stratford and everyone is excited to have this position filled to ensure senior engagement in a variety of activities. The new Administrator is working out great and she has reviewed a couple items with him.  Family Care Homes:  Charles house in-services have been completed and has arranged for staff in-service training at Livewell.  M. Zubar and A. Cox will send out monthly updates regarding visited facilities. Orange County (OCDOA) (OCDOA) Department of Aging Annie Deaver, Aging Health Administrator  A. Deaver stated thanks for excusing her at the last meeting but there were some staff interviews that needed to be filled. The meeting is on her calendar for 2019.  Social Workers were down one position and we have made an offer and hope all is going well. Position vacant since August 2018.  Connect More at Seymour will be a social inclusionary group and will be Lisa M. will be an introductory group for new comers and those who have been here for a while but do not know about all the wonderful things that happen at the Seymour Center. Plus expand to Passmore Center.  They are revamping Guidelines and Policies.  We are including an Ad in the Senior Times for OCADH Committee members as we need members.  The full committee accepted the report Orange County Adult Day Home Visitation Reports: Orange County Family Care Home (<6) Visitation Reports: M. Zuber and group discussion regarding the disparity for seniors in Orange County. We meet 6 times a year maybe we could meet 4 and have 2 meetings with staff at The Stratford and Crescent Green as we learned at the training that one group met with the CEO of a facility to begin to engage change. Maybe spend more time at facilities that need assistance as there is really nothing to improve at Carolwoods. Invite County Commissioners. The answer will be money. Bring in more volunteers and interns from university and area schools. Some of the administrators are on the defensive if when we go in “ask the Administrator if  S. Master Aging Plan discussion ensued. A. Cox stated that Adult Care Home and Assisted Living are used interchangeably (7>). M. Zuber regarding prospective members to attend the facilities reports session is OK. Assisted Facility Reports: • Adorable Senior Living: • Brookdale Meadows: • Carillon Assisted Living: • Carolwoods Retirement Community: S. Little stated this facility has a country club like environment, we got a chance to speak with residents, most had gone to dinner, no smells and everything was clean and 2 buildings didn’t have correct contact information up for Ombudsman. • Crescent Green: • The Stratford: N. McCormick stated that things had greatly improved, Alzheimer’s care has improved, a big facility and no activities coordinator, Priest comes weekly and they enjoy his visits with the residents. • A, Cox stated that there is a new Activities Director for The Stratford who was a member of the Nursing Home Committee. Family Care Home (<6) Reports: • Cedar Grove Family Care Homes • Charles House: Winmore Eldercare and Yorktown Eldercare minor edits as needed. 4 • Livewell Assisted Living: Pauline Drive and Elliott Road: A. Brown stated that overall the report is favorable: some Rx powder vitamins were left out in the kitchen on the counter, staff key chain with mace on it was in the kitchen, no call bells (sometimes hand bells are not required in this facility), staff interacting with the staff, unlocked cleaning cabinets. • M. Zuber stated they were redoing the roof at night seemed odd, met Jen the Executive Director had a long conversation with her, visit these once a year, outside of engagement with activities could be a little more unless they learned that most residents are at some stage of dementia. • A. Cox stated the Livewell has homes in 6 Family Care Homes across 3 counties: 2 Chatham (Governor’s Club), 2 Orange County, and 2 Wake County. 5 are Dementia specific. The newer home in Governor’s Club is for residents are more interactive. New Business M. Zuber, Chair M. Zuber asked if any new business, comments or concerns. S. Little related to W. Lang’s comment to stay on our task as OCADH Committee Members and advocate for what is best for the residents. Improve Collaboration and Awareness will help us do a better job and partnering with the OCDOA. Volunteer burnout and not sure of their mission. Updating the volunteer roster and updating who is serving on which committee and when we completed a visit. A.
