Agenda Items / Notes (April 11, 2017) 1. Call to order Chair Dorosin called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM 2. Introductions Introduction of members and staff 3. Update / American Legion Property Jim Orr / Chapel Hill Director of Parks and Recreation gave a presentation on the American Legion Property project • The town of Chapel Hill acquired the 36.2 acre on 12/5/16 for 7.9 million dollars • Council further resolved that the property should be used for a mix of public and private purposes • Hired Coulter; Jewel; Thames to lead a charrette and develop a Master Plan   • Established a Task Force in the spring of 2017 • The findings of the community charrette were compiled into a Report to Council, completed in June 2017 (available online) 4. Update / Mountains to Sea Trail Dave Stancil / Director Orange County, Dept. of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation gave an update on the Mountains to Sea Trail • Mountains-to-Sea Trail (MST) Route was adopted by the Orange County BOCC on 1/23/2018 • Dave presented the various section of the route; the exiting; the proposed conceptual and the idea of the alternative multi-modal route 5. Update / Trails & Greenways Map / Marabeth Carr presented on the Trails and Greenways Map • The Interactive Park Locater Map was shown to the group with a description of how it works. As Trueblood pointed out, information is continually being added and updated; therefore the map continues to grow. 5. What’s on the Horizon? / Long Range Parks and Recreation Plans A. Town of Chapel Hill; Linda Smith – Just finished Tanyard Branch Trail; might apply for a PARTF for the American Legion Property; deciding on resurfacing of 2 soccer fields at Southern; working on design of Morgan Creek trail extension B. Town of Carrboro; Jones McNair – Ribbon cutting last Saturday for the renovated town commons project includes new restrooms; grassed areas irrigation; playground shade sail and lighting; also have an RFQ for MLK Park. C. Town of Hillsborough; Robb English Downtown sidewalks and ADA ramps are complete; master plans are in the works for each of the parks. D. Orange County; Dave Stancil – Construction of a parking area for the Seven Mile Creek Access Area recently completed will have an opening soon. Blackwood Farm Park revised Master Plan was adopted by the BOCC; there is in interest in having a honey house. Sportsplex fieldhouse is underway; Earth Evening is April 28th in River Park; Farm to Table May 4th; Fairview Park landfill study is underway. E. City of Mebane; Dean Ray- Held groundbreaking for a new 32 acre Community Park. Amenities include artificial turf soccer fields, concession building, a splash park and dog park, walking trails and open play space. The park is slated to open late 2018. In the process of purchasing a 52 acre farm this site will have passive recreational activities plan to use the barn as a party type of venue. F. Others- UNC Recreation, Bill Goa-UNC redoing driveway to the University Lake Boat House. Also renovating disc golf course because of tree damage; reducing the number of hole from 21 to 17. ENO River Association- Confluence Natural Area grand opening 5/5/18 6. Topics of Interest for 2018 Consensus were to finalize the Trails and Greenway Map. 7. Adjournment 6:50pm.
