PURPOSE: To consider making appointments to the Historic Preservation Board.
BACKGROUND: The following recommendations for appointment and re-appointment are for
Board consideration:

RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board consider making
appointments to the Historic Preservation Commission.

Description: Appointments are made for three years. The majority of the members of the commission shall have demonstrated special interest,experience
or education in history,architecture,landscape architecture,archaeology,or related fields.This commission is charged with undertaking an
inventory of properties of historical,prehistorical,architectural,and/or cultural significance.It recommends areas to be designated or
removed as"historic districts"and reviews and acts upon proposals for alterations,demolition,new construction,etc. APPLICATANTS

Dear Ms. Baker:
The Orange County Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) reviewed the current applicants for
membership at its regular meeting on February 27. The HPC wishes to make the following
recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners to fill position #5 now held by Robert
Ireland,who will rotate off on March 31 after serving two full terms:
Appoint Susan Ballard to serve in position#5. Ms. Ballard has had long involvement in
historic preservation and provided exceptional volunteer service when she served on the
HPC from 2013-2016.
In addition,the HPC asks the Board of County Commissioners to consider reappointing the
following two current members to second three-year terms. These members will reach the end of
their first terms on March 31, 2019 and all are willing to continue serving on the board:
Art Menius to a second full term in position number 6.
Todd Dickinson to a second full term in position number 7.

Past HPC member for 1 .5? terms (something like that), but had to resign due to
unforeseen familial needs. Those needs are now such that I am able to commit to
attending to HPC meetings and re-involve myself in the community. I would like to
resume work with the HPC.

documents, and artifacts. Grew up in a c1813 National Landmark home with respect of historic
properties ingrained daily. I am passionate about the Landmark program, promoting and
educating people about preservation. MBA Marketing and Econ.

I am passionate about preservation, love OC, and wish to use my retirement time in service to
the community.

Although I m not totally sure what all this board does, it appears to be a point where I might be
able to use my skills to serve the community.

Well networked (for HPC board)to assist in fundraising for the Orange County Architectural
History book the HPC is working on jointly with the city.
What do you see as the responsibilities of this board, and what do you hope to
accomplish if appointed?
HPC: To recommend properties for Landmark designation, to advise property owners, to
educate the public, and to promote preservation of historical properties, documents, and
artifacts.
I hope to help in anyway I can to support the boards initiatives.
