PURPOSE: For the Executive Director of the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau to
present the Bureau's annual report and present an overview of activities for the future.
BACKGROUND: The Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau's annual report announces
that domestic travel in Orange County generated an economic impact of $115.27 million in
2003. This ranks Orange County as 22"d among North Carolina counties far economic impact.
More than 1,710 jobs and a payroll of $26.32 million were directly attributable to travel and
tourism. State and local tax revenues from travel to Orange County amounted to $9.28 million,
representing a tax savings of $75 to each County resident.
Plans for 2004-2005 include re-design of all publications, new partnerships, and a new
promotion highlighting culinary activities in Orange County.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact at this time.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the annual report.
