The above mentioned appropriation for schoels, as will be shown in detail by
reference to the school budget statements which have been filed by the Orange County
Board of Education and by the Board of Tnstees of the Chapel Hi11 City Administrative
unit have been divided on a per capita basis so that in current expense the Chapel Hill
Administrative unit rdll receive $56,5H5•CO and in capital outl~ ,^,16. S60.00. This
division is only a tentative one and will becme final only when a final certification
of the A & E e~ollment is Sited with the County Accountant by the State Board of
Bducation. At that time iS there is a:q alteration of the enrollment flgurea a paw per
capita distribution for both current expense and capital outlay wj11. be made.
On all male persons between the ages of 21 and 50 yeazs the sum of „a.00 in
accordance with the nrovisionc of G.S. 195-31x1 (1) unless such person is exempt as provided
by larr. Trenty five oercent of the proceeds of this tar. shall ba deposited in the
~~ Welfare Fund and seventy five percent of this tax shall be deposited in the School Current
LSroense Fund.
On each~~emale dog six months of age or alder the sum of $2.00 and on each male dog
and each female dog other than an open female of the age of six months or older the sum oT
$1.00. The proceeds of this tax shall be depodted in the General Fund to bs used to defray
the expense of the dog warden in acceptance with the provddon of G.S. 67-3D.
There is hereby levied is each mazriage 1cense issued a tax of $1x.00 in accordance
with the provisions of G.S. 51-20. The proceeds of this tax shall be deposited with the
General Pund.
There is hereby levied a privilege 1lcease tar, in the maximum amour permitted by
Schedule H of the Bovenue Act, heing article 2 of Chapter 105 of the General Statutes avd
by any other section of the General Statutes on each budness~ trade, occupation or
profession which countlos azo authorised to tar under Schedule H of the Revemre Act and
other sections of the Gonezal Statutes, except Sn the azea of employment agencies. For
domestic employment agencies a license fee of $lO.CO is hereby levied.

Resolution levying 1958 Tax was unanimously adapted:

For School Current 6xnense Purposes the sws of .1215 cents par $100.00 Property
Valuation.
For School Capital Outlay ~cpensa Purposes the swa of .200E cents per $L00.00
Property Valuation.
Por School Debt Service Purposes the sum of .1909 cents per $100.00 Property
Paluation.
Por General }yelfare Purposes the swa of .0530 cants per $100.00 Property
Valuation.

The above Ad Valorem tax levies amount to the sum of .82¢ per $100.00 oS
Property Valuation.
In Addition to the above Ad Palorem taxation there shall be levied the penalty as
prescribed by law on each tax account :vhich is not listed Burin the period speciSied by
law.

919 there shall be levied a special tax oT S .15 per $100.00 property valuation on all taxable
property within the Chapel Nill Specie]. School District.
In accordance with Article 3-A of Chapter 69 G.S. oT 17, C., there is hereby levied tho
~ sum of 5 10 per 5100.00 property valuation on all taxable property located in tho Greater
Chapel Hill Fire Distrdci as created under the above mentioned Sscl3 on of General Statute by
i a special electl.on held April 12~ 1955.
ISr. L. &. Beard: Vice President of the Y11111am L. Harrell Compaxq appoared before the
Board and discussed the tax value of the Eelle Vue ISanutacturing Comnar{y. 'Ihe Hoard advised
tdz. Hsard that they would let him knoer bon they would like to procee3 with this matter in
a few days.
Upon motion oL Commissioner Rays seco:xied by Commissioner McDade the folloving
resolution relative to the Cauhty~s participation in the Law 4forcement Officers
Benefit and Retirement fund was naaaimonsly adopted:
YHiEREAS~ the 1945 General Assembly amended the North Carolina Local Oovortnnental Fmployeea~
Retirement System so as to make the beneTits of said System available to all counties cities
and towns and
WEE:IiHAS~ the governing body oS this Unit realizes tho necessity of providing its employees
with the security ¢nd protectd.on provided by a ccund retixuement nlan~ and
tt}31WtEA5v Article 3 of Chapter 128 of the General Statutes of North Cazolina provides
that ary goverrmental unit deairtng to enroll its employees in said System shall make
application to the Board oS Trustees of the North Carolina Local Governmental ]:laplpyees~
Retirement System and shall by resolution elect to participato in said System.

1. 9rat the County of Orange hereby elects to participate its employees in the North
Carolina LAC31 Governmental Fmployees~ Retirement System.
2. prat the County of Orange hereby agreos to comply with all provisions of the North
Carolina T:oca1 Governmental Fmployees~ Retirement System ns defined in Article 3~ Chanter
128 of tho General Statutes of North Carntdna as amended by the 1945 General Asse~ahly.
3. That the County Accountant is hereby ovdered and directed to make application to the
Hoard of Trustees of the North Carolina Local Governmental 15nployees~ Retirement System for
em'ollment of this Unit and its employees is said System.
Upon motion of Commissioner Rey and seconded by Commissionex•tse-ade~ the above
resolution was introduced for passage. The follovring number voted in the affirmative: 5.
