HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda and Meeting Plan - 01-25-2019 Board Retreat Proposed Meeting Plan Final Draft Orange County Board of County Commissioners Retreat Location: Cedar Grove Community Center 5800 NC Hwy 86N, Hillsborough Friday, January 25, 2019 9:00 AM—4:00 PM (breakfast will be available at 8:30am) At the table (12): Seven Orange County Commissioners, County Manager, Deputy County Manager, County Attorney, Open Seat for Staff, Facilitator Invited Resource Persons/Staff: All Department Heads Desired Outcomes: • Identify areas of consensus among Commissioners on topics of. Affordable Housing, Transit, and Economic Development • Look for areas of interjurisdictional collaboration with school boards and four Orange County towns with respect to the three identified topics: Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough, and Mebane Proposed Ground Rules for the Meeting • Begin and adjourn on time • One speaker at a time • Listen attentively • Step up/Step back • Share the time available for discussion • It is OK to disagree...please do so respectfully Agenda 8:30 Breakfast 9:00 Convene • Meeting Overview by facilitator: Clarify and adopt desired outcomes, agenda, and ground rules. • Opening remarks by Chair 9:20 Icebreaker Activity; Intracounty Differences - (Travis Myren/Bonnie Hammersley, Orange County Commissioners) Maps and Overview followed by talk from board members; discussion: what is an example of intergovernmental collaboration that has worked well, and what is an example of where it has not; and for each, what was county's role in your example 9:50 Affordable Housing; Background • Background Presentation(Sherrill Hampton): Affordable Housing; Existing programs, successes and needs,budget and funding streams • Open Discussion: Identifying priorities and consensus on affordable housing in Orange County among the Board of County Commissioners • Agreement on priorities to be discussed 10:40 Break and Informal Discussion 10:55 Affordable Housing; Areas for Intergovernmental Collaboration • Brief talk from staff(Travis Myren) about existing collaboration with 4 jurisdictions • What is notable about efforts of the four identified jurisdictions relating to affordable housing?
