PURPOSE: To consider awarding a bid for a Skid Steer Loader from Triangle Equipment of
Raleigh, North Carolina for Orange County Recycling.
BACKGROUND: In 1997, the Solid Waste Department began processing recyclable material
at its processing facility at the Orange County Landfill, As part of the operation, a skid steer
loader was purchased to help sort and move the processed material. This process includes
moving the baled material and other needs to prepare the materials for market.
The machine for which bids have been solicited will replace the original skid steer. The original
skid steer will be used as a backup at the processing pad handling the recyclable materials and
will also be used as needed to process and move recycled electronic material for market.
Purchase of this item was anticipated and budgeted for FY 2004-05,
Bid specifications were developed and advertised on the Purchasing Department's website.
Bids were solicited from ten vendors, Triangle Equipment of Raleigh, North Carolina
submitted the lowest responsible bid of the three submittals received at a delivered cost of
$22,162,00,
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Total cost of this action, if approved by the Board, would be $22,162,00,.
Sufficient funds to cover this purchase have been appropriated in the 2004-05 Solid
Waste/Landfill Operations budget,
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board award a bid for a Bobcat
S220 to Triangle Equipment of Raleigh, North Carolina in the amount of $22,162.00; and
authorize the Purchasing Director to execute the necessary paperwork,
