BACKGROUND: Jomali Drive (extension of SR 1642): The developer of Pleasant Green Woods Subdivision Phase II has petitioned the North Carolina department of Transportation ( NCDOT) to accept maintenance responsibilities for an extension of Jomali Drive, SR 1642, Pleasant Green Woods subdivision is located off the east side of Pleasant Green Road, SR 1567, Eno Township. The extension of Jomali Drive serves 13 homes in Phase II of Pleasant Green Woods., The Board approved Pleasant Green Woods Phase II in August 2000, Zapata Lane: Residents in Zapata Subdivision have petitioned NCDOT to accept maintenance responsibilities for Zapata Lane. Zapata Subdivision is located off the west side of Old Lystra Road, SR 1915, in the Extra Territorial Jurisdiction of Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill Township. Zapata Lane serves 11 homes in Zapata Lane and Lystra Woods Subdivisions. Tanya Drive (extension of SR 1448): The property owner of ,04 -mile lot fronting Tanya Drive has petitioned NCDOT to accept maintenance responsibilities for that portion of the road, The Board, at its meeting on April 13, 2004, approved Tanya Drive residents' petition requesting NCDOT to accept maintenance responsibilities for the part of Tanya Drive from Cherry Street to the northern lot boundary of the corner lot at Tanya Drive and Glenn Street, At that time, NCDOT was not able to obtain right -of -way on Tanya Drive for that corner property. The property owner has now dedicated the right -of -way to NCDOT. Two homes have entrances on the .04 -mile portion of Tanya Drive. Tanya Drive also serves as a through road for other homes in the subdivision, This addition will complete a state - maintained access through the subdivision (Glenn Street, Tanya Drive and Cherry Street). 2 NCDOT has investigated these requests (please refer to attached Secondary Road Addition Reports) and has submitted the petitions to the Board of Commissioners for its review and approval. The Board must take an administrative action to approve the petitions to NCDOT in order for NCDOT to add Jomali Drive (extension of SR 1642), Zapata Lane and Tanya Drive (extension of SR 1448) to the State Secondary Road System, and accept maintenance responsibilities. FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact associated with this item. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the requests to add Jomali Drive (extension), Zapata Lane and Tanya Drive (extension) to the State Secondary Road System.
