Meeting Summary
MEMBERS PRESENT: Maureane Hoffman (Chair), Molly Mullin (Vice-Chair), Diane Obeid, Edmund

Call to order: 6:30pm
Review and adoption of the Agenda: approved
Summary of August 15, 2018 meeting: Motion to approve summary with this addition: Recommend a
new agenda item for ASAB October meeting: Make recommendations for changes in the NC general
statues to the BOCC as part of their legislative agenda.
Motion passed unanimously
Review of public participation guidelines: Not reviewed
General Public Comments on items not on the agenda: None
Monthly Meeting Attendance Record: Confirm completion
Welcome new board members:
• Lisa Wells (retail sector position)
• Bryan Stuart, Ph.D. (Hillsborough position)
• Lee Pickett, VMD (veterinary position)
• Next new member orientation will be October 4th
Note: One position is still open: at large non-municipal
Animal Services Advisory Board Updates:
New Business
• 2018 Pat Sanford Animal Welfare Award
o Award guidelines were distributed to ASAB members
o October 15 is the deadline for submitting a grant application, either electronically
or via mail, and the award committee will make a final decision no later than
November 15
o Selection of ASAB committee members to serve on the grant review committee: Bryan
Stuart, Lee Pickett, Evelyn Daniel
• Animal Services Updates—Andi Morgan
o Discussed success of “Clear the Shelters” event, support efforts for hurricane Florence,
and upcoming events such as vaccination clinic (9/27), spay/neuter day (10/17), October
dog adoption month, donation for surgery animal warming blankets, filling 3 final
staffing vacancies and fate of trees near easement
• Information Items
o Monthly Sheltering Statistical Reports, August 2018 (forthcoming)
o Monthly Field Service Statistical Report, August 2018 (forthcoming)
o Due to staffing shortages and the need for a customized software program, these reports
will be slightly delayed

• The meeting was adjourned at 7:26 pm. The next meeting is October 17, 2018 at 6:30 pm, Orange
County Animal Services Center.
