HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRC minutes 030718 Orange County Parks and Recreation Council Meeting Summary Date : March 7, 2018 Place : Environment and Agricultural Center Conference Room PRESENT : Tori Williams Reid ; Haywood Rhodes ; Evelyn Daniel ; John Greeson ; Gina Reyman ; Robert Robinson ; Tim Tippen ; Rachel Massai ; Robert Smith ; Betty McDade Khan ABSENT : Rachel Cotter ; Katie Loovis STAFF : Lynn Hecht ; David Stancil ; I . Call to Order : Roll was called . lie Additions or Changes to Agenda , Meeting Summary : Daniel asked about the agenda abstract that was passed out last month related to the Mobile Home Park in Chapel Hill moving to Mill Creek . Stancil went into detail about that issue . Daniel questioned the work on the MST and Reyman asked that this be clarified (what Derby had said about the extent of work on the MST increasing his staff' s time on this project . ) Hecht asked that the Carrboro PRC applicant be considered . That will be added to IV section C . McDade Khan asked about the future work at Cedar Grove Park and Stancil gave her a quick report . III . Report of the Chair : no report IV. New Business a . Election of Chair and Vice- Chair-Williams Reid and Rhodes are both eligible to serve another term and indicated they would be willing to do so . Both were nominated by acclamation . Reyman moved to close nominations for chair and vice - chair , as they've both said they would serve again . Daniel 2nd the motion . All voted in favor . b . Resolution of Appreciation - Betty McDade Khan - Betty was presented with a certificate of appreciation for her two (2 ) terms on the board . Daniel and Massai , who are going off the board after one ( 1 ) term , were also thanked . c . The board looked over PRC applicant from Carrboro , Michael Zelek to fill the Carrboro City Limits vacancy , after Daniel goes off at the end of March . The board agreed to recommend him to the BOCC . d . Review and Scoring of Outside Agency Requests i . Big Brothers/ Big Sisters of the Triangle - received a score of 89 lit Bridge II Sports- received an 82 ilia Triangle Bikeworks - received a 95 V . Old Business a . Parks - Capital Construction and Funding - Report from February 15 BOCC meeting -the BOCC discussed funding and prioritization of parks/parks projects . There was talk about finishing what we started ; Blackwood Farm Park ; Cedar Grove Park (tball field ) ; and Soccer . com expansion (year 2 project) . They may use article 47 tax for Soccer . com expansion . Prioritization was already in the CIP . Some of the parks of the future ( Bingham , Northern Park & possibly Millhouse Road Park due to Chapel Hill Town ' s hesitation about the mobile home park idea ) were pushed off the table . VI . Report of the Director a . Updates on Other Projects , Facilities & Programs (Tennis Bubble) - Blackwood Farm will host the Fishing Rodeo ( maybe name it the Strayhorn Fishing Rodeo) . Fairview Park study is getting some results in . As long as water isn 't consumed from the creek and only from the city ' s water source , it should be ok . Tennis Bubble - one lady has been talking to Stancil about building an indoor tennis " bubble . " The council agreed to see if she can provide them with more information . VII . Council and Committee Reports a . Intergovernmental Parks Work Group . Next meeting is April 11 . Robinson volunteered to represent PRC in this group . b . Items from the Council - none c . Friends of Orange County Parks and Recreation ( FOPR) - no information . VIII . Meeting adjourned at . Next meeting will be April 4 at the Chapel Hill Public Library .
