Members Present: Jim Kitchen, John Morris, Paige Zinn, Mark O’Neal, Anthony Carey, Keith
Coleman, Sharon Hill, James Watts
Orange County Staff: Travis Myren, Steve Brantley, Yvonne Scarlett, Mike Ortosky, Amanda Garner,
Michael Harvey (Planning)
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by Jim Kitchen, Chair at 12:00 pm.
Meeting Summary/Minutes: May 15, 2018
Coleman moved to accept the minutes/summary; seconded by Hill; motion carried.
New Business
Revised permitted use table - Michael Harvey, Orange County Planning (Supervisor, Current Planning)
Harvey provided a brief overview of the revised “permitted use table”. Items of discussion included
(see attached):
• Rural Buffer
• Review process
• Advisory Board input
Election of Executive Committee
The following were elected:
• Jim Kitchen, Chair
• Paige Zinn, Vice-Chair
• James Watts - Secretary
TJCOG Regional Summit
Steve Brantley informed the group that he and Commissioner Penny Rich will attend the 2018 Regional
Summit being held on September 27 in Sanford.
Old Business
SWOT Analysis and September 6th County Commissioner Work Session. Discussion included:
• Timmons Group - conducted an exhaustive study of the EDD’s, citans, etc.
• Board of County Commissioners discussed at the annual retreat in January 2018
• Deputy County Manager presented PowerPoint at BOCC work session on May 10, 2018
• Zoning
• Identify most marketable properties
• GIS Study of adjacent property
• Pad-ready sites
• Strategic Plan – update/refresh?
• Work session with BOCC
• Goals of Advisory Board - Advisory Board would like to work with Economic Development staff
to develop 5, 10, 20 year goals to present to Board of County Commissioners
*A small subcommittee Jim Kitchen, Mark O’Neal, Paige Zinn and John Morris) was created to formulate draft
goals for Economic Development staff’s review; then to County Managers office.
2018 Orange County Economic Summit update - Steve Brantley, Director
The Economic Summit will be held October 17 and will be a radio-based program. The reception will
be held on October18 at the Redeye Worldwide headquarters; honoring grants and loan recipients.
Adjournment - Chair Jim Kitchen adjourned the meeting at 1:20 pm.
