BACKGROUND: Nichols Place Subdivision: Residents of Nichols Drive (6 homes) and Maggie Lane (5 homes) have petitioned the North Carolina Department of Transportation ( NCDOT) to accept maintenance responsibilities for those roads. Both roads are located in Nichols Plane subdivision off the east side of NC 57 approximately 1.3 miles north of Caldwell, Little River Township. The Board approved the preliminary plat for Nichols Place in November 1988. Kerlington Subdivision: Residents of Pascal Way (5 homes) have petitioned NCDOT to accept maintenance responsibilities for the road. Pascal Way is in Kerlington subdivision (Phase 2) off the east side of Kerley Road, in Chapel Hill Township and extending into Durham County. The Durham Subdivision Review Board approved Kerlington Phase 2 in January 1983. The Orange County Board of Commissioners approved the preliminary plat in February 1983. Woodbrooke Subdivision: Residents of Meadow Lane Extension (10 homes) have petitioned NCDOT to accept maintenance responsibilities along a 0.23 -mile extension of SR 1195 (Meadow Lane). Meadow Lane Extension is in Woodbrooke subdivision off the west side of Bethel- Hickory Grove Church Road, Chapel Hill and Bingham Townships. The Board approved the preliminary plat for Woodbrooke subdivision in April 1987. NCDOT has investigated these requests (please refer to attached Secondary Road Addition Reports) and has submitted the petition to the Board of Commissioners for its review and approval. The Board must take an administrative action to approve the petition to NCDOT in order for NCDOT to add Nichols Drive, Maggie Lane, Pascal Way and Meadow Lane Extension to the State Secondary Road System, and accept maintenance responsibilities for those roads.
