Members In attendance:
Gloria Brown
Will Lang
Yvonne Mendenhall
Michael Zuber
Autumn Cox – Regional Ombudsman
Mary Fraser – Liaison to OCDOA
Amanda Weir-Gertzog – Intern with OCDOA
Also, in Attendance for public portion of the meeting:
Tiketha Collins
John Lyons
Autumn Cox chaired the meeting due to Committee Chair, Max Mason’s absence
1. The meeting was called to order
2. Introductions. Tiketha Collins and John Lyons were introduced as new committee
recruits preparing for training in the ACH CAC.
3. Autumn reported that there are 4 recruits including those present at the meeting, who are
being trained and will do initial site visits in the coming weeks.
4. Mary Fraser gave the Orange County Department on Aging Report: Mary will be retiring
from OCDA on June 29 and moving out of state. Interviewing for her replacement is
underway. She gave an update on the Long-Term Care initiative within the current
Master Aging Plan. She also discussed the Long-Term Care Senior Resource Team
newly created from the current Project EngAGE graduating class. Mary reports that both
the Master Aging Plan committee n Long Term Care and the Resource Team will be
focusing on offering a continuous focus on Orange County Long Term Care facilities
with a goal to offer improvements to facilities.
5. Autumn gave the Ombudsman report mentioning recent and ongoing complaint
investigations into Orange County facilities.
6. Autumn and Yvonne proposed creating and using a Closed Facebook page to supplement
communications for this committee. Another ACH CAC Committee Autumn works with
has successfully launched a Closed Facebook Page. A poll of members indicated less
than 50% of the current members are Facebook members. Because the efficiency of a
Closed Group page relies on membership usage, the idea was dismissed.
7. Autumn will establish team assignments after the current new recruits are trained.
Members are asked to email any preferences for assignments to Autumn as soon as
possible.
8. Due to the increase in Family Care Homes in Orange County in the past several years,
Mary Fraser suggested that the committee consider visiting those facilities quarterly
rather than annually. Autumn supported that suggestion, so the committee and Family
Care Homes can know each other better and work toward better care programs in the
Family Care Homes.
9. Autumn reminded the committee that there are still three open posts on the Committee to
bring us to full size. She shared flyers we can use to recruit additional members.
10. Meeting then switched from public to closed.
11. Site Visit Reports were presented:
a. Crescent Green, by Yvonne Mendenhall
b. Carol Woods by Michael Zuber
c. Brookdale jointly presented by Yvonne and Michael
12. All reports were approved with minor edits
13. Autumn reminded the committee that quarterly site visit reports are due when the visit is
completed and should be emailed to the Committee Chair and Ombudsman at that time.
It will help meeting planning and efficiency to send the reports earlier in the quarter.
14. Quarterly activity reports are due (for April, May and June 2018) by July 5. Those
should be sent to Autumn.
15. Autumn will be on maternity and parental leave around July 1 but will manage the
reports we send to Ombudsman for her temporary replacement.
16. Temporary Ombudsman for Orange County will be Pam Palmer, Durham County
Ombudsman.
17. Next meeting will be July 19, 2018 3:30 PM at the Passmore Center.
18. A thank you was presented from Orange County to each committee member for
Volunteer appreciation, and a card was signed and presented to Mary Fraser for her
outstanding service to Orange County Department on Aging, and congratulation and
good wishes were shared with Autumn Cox to welcome her new baby.
19. The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 PM
