The residents and staff all looked very clean, well-groomed and healthy. Residents in the memory unit were observed and cared for. Interactions were upbeat, positive, comfortable and respectful between residents and staff. 2. Did residents say they receive assistance with personal care activities? (i.e. brushing their teeth, combing their hair, inserting dentures or cleaning their eyeglasses) Yes 3. Did you see or hear residents being encouraged to participate in their care by staff members? Yes 4.Were residents interacting with staff, other residents & visitors? Yes 5.Did staff respond to or interact with residents who had difficulty communicating or making their needs known verbally? Did residents describe their living environment as homelike? Yes 8-14. Residents DID describe Brookdale as homelike. While we visited, one resident was moving back into Brookdale by her daughter. She lived there for a short time and thought she preferred being at her home. A couple of weeks later, she wanted to be back at Brookdale and returned. Brookdale Meadowmont is clean, inviting, comfortable and very safe. 9. Did you notice unpleasant odors? No 10. Did you see items that could cause harm or be hazardous? No 10a. Residents are invited to participate in decisions on activities, menus and eating choices, and outings. The activities postings indicate a wide variety of programs and projects in which to engage. 15a. Was a current activity calendar posted in the facility? Yes 15b. Does the facility have needs that the committee or community could help address? Comments from residents were VERY positive, a group of residents was enjoying the front porch on the warm afternoon of our visit. They were “all smiles” and very relaxed. When asked about staff, comments were very affirmative. One resident stated “Laura [Laura Hannigan Executive Director] is fantastic!” Questions about care, satisfaction, if we could help, were all met with praise for Brookdale Meadowmont, the program, facility, and staff. Brookdale consistently presents a warm and caring program and staff. They have won corporate wide awards for two years for resident and family satisfaction. 1/2015
