Description:<div>The Central Community Board supports a behavioral healthcare organization focused on helping access services for people with mental health, intellectual and
developmental disabilities and substance use/addiction conditions. The Board is responsible for advising the Senior Community Executive on recommending priorities for
expenditure of state/county funds for development of the annual budget; determining local priorties for inclusion in the area-wide strategic plan, as possible; identifying
community needs and concerns, monitoring resolution of issues; monitoring performance at the local level to include: access to care; financial status and expenditures; service

I graduated from Clemson University in 2007 with a Genetics Degree. During that time I worked
heavily with genetically modifying plants to m ore efficiently produce biodiesel with little to no
chemical runoff.
Reasons for wanting to serve on this board:
I am very passionate about about about the land preservation, air toxins, and climate change as
well as governm ent. I believe that serving on this board will enable me to direct my passions for
good in my community.

Ellen Perry has been a self-advocate for over 40 years. She owns and operates a small
business called Advocates in Action and speaks around the country on issues related to self-
advocacy and rights and access for people with disabilities. She is committed to helping people
with disabilities to be able to live as independently as possible in the community of their choice.
Through her advocacy work, Ellen served for several years on both The North Carolina Council
on Developmental Disabilities and the Carrboro Transportation Advisory Board. She created
Peer Connections a Health and Wellness Program for people with intellectual disabilities and got
the Money Follows Person enacted in North Carolina. Ellen is currently involved in the local and
state self-advocacy groups RANE (Real Advocates Now Emerging) and People First. She was a
board member of National APSE (Association of People Supporting Employment/First) and sits
on DWAC (DMA and DHHS Department Waiver Advisory Committee). She has also written
fourteen books on topics that help people with disabilities learn how to live their lives more
independently.
