I believe that serving on this board will enable me to direct my passions for good in my community. She owns and operates a small business called Advocates in Action and speaks around the country on issues related to self- advocacy and rights and access for people with disabilities. She is committed to helping people with disabilities to be able to live as independently as possible in the community of their choice. Through her advocacy work, Ellen served for several years on both The North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities and the Carrboro Transportation Advisory Board. She created Peer Connections a Health and Wellness Program for people with intellectual disabilities and got the Money Follows Person enacted in North Carolina. Ellen is currently involved in the local and state self-advocacy groups RANE (Real Advocates Now Emerging) and People First. She was a board member of National APSE (Association of People Supporting Employment/First) and sits on DWAC (DMA and DHHS Department Waiver Advisory Committee).
