Orange County Staff: Travis Myren, Steve Brantley, Katie Murray, Mike Ortosky, Amanda Garner, Tina Love
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order Jim Kitchen, Chair.
Approval of Minutes
Minutes from the January 9, 2017 meeting were approved by consensus.
New Business
• Orange County Arts Commission Presentation– Katie Murray
o Presentation on economic impacts of the arts included the revenue generated in Orange
County
Data shows art generates 130.3 million of spending in Orange County
5,001 jobs generated
Old Business
• CROP Loan – Steve Brantley
o Grant from Dept. of Agriculture with a match form Weaver Street to serve as a loan program for
companies at PFAP
• Economic Summit – Steve Brantley, Travis Myren
o More traditional event currently looking at 3 formats – going to BOCC on April 3, 2018
• Visit NC Farms Mobile App – Tina Love
o Agritourism tool currently only available in Orange County
• Project and Commercial Activity – Steve Brantley
o Up to about 80 projects with strong activity and multiple projects making multiple visits
• Ag Grant Activity
o Funding has been depleted since the fall – no new grants until next fiscal year – July 1
• Update on County Activity – Travis Myren
o Settlers Point
o Detention Center
o School Bond
o Capital Budget then Operating Budget
o Mobile Home Strategies
• SWOT Analysis – Steve Brantley
o Creation of Subcommittee – Jim Kitchen
Next Steps – putting together
