PURPOSE: To consider one change in the County Commissioners' regular meeting calendar
for year 2000.
BACKGROUND; Pursuant to North Carolina General Statute 153A~0, the Board of County
Commissioners must fix the time and place of its meetings ar provide a notice of any change in
the Regular Meeting Schedule. On December 7, 2000, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission
and the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board will be holding the oral evidentiary presentations on
the environmental contentions associated with Carolina Power and Light's high level radioactive
waste storage expansion plans. That meeting will be at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh. In
preparation for that meeting, the County Commissioners will consider adding a meeting to their
regular meeting calendar for December 6, 2000 at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel Hill Town Council
Chambers. The purpose of the meeting will be to provide an opportunity for Dr. Gordon
Thompson to give a 30-minute presentation followed by questions and answers from County
Commissioners and the public. The meeting will be televised.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: NONE
RECOMMENDATION (S): The Manager recommends that the Board amend their regular
meeting calendar by adding a meeting for.December 6, 2000 at 7:30 p.m, at the Chapel Hill
Town Council Chambers for the purpose as stated above.
