Members abeent: None.
A reed petition was presented by Coe®issicner Aay for a road running Ram the Estes Hill area tr3
new Chnpal Hill elameatary school alts and oa to the Airport Rcad. This proposed road is approzi-
sly ~ mile in length. As this petition was initiated try the Highm~y Daparkment, it was approved by
Board of Commdaeionera even though it at present does not meet the required standards far acceptance
far as number of houses are concerned.
Upon motion of Cemmiasioner Nellmr, du]y seconded nrd passed, the Accountant was directed to
investigate the posffibilltiea of investing the $46,100.00 surplus in School Debt 9ervica Pettis in
U. H. Government Securities.
The Board then moved to a dlscuseioa of the County budget. After much discussion, St was agreed
to net the County School Units Current Expenm budget at $lOb,000.C0 and to make a per capita diatri-
button of the Capital Outlay Appropriation.
Commissiwer Any then moved that the 1957 tax rate be sot at $ .72 end the per capita allotment
for Capital Outlay far the County School Dn1t ba $104,734.00 and for the Chapel Hill Uait ~ $58,Bll.00.
This motion received a eeeo~ iY® Cammisnioner Pope. A length discussion of this proposal and its
possible effects was held. Chairman Hobbs then called fora vote end 5 gyea and C noon ware recorded.
The Accountant was then direoted to prepare the budget an approved by the Board ami file it with the
Clerk to the Hoard for inspection. The Hoard set Llomday, July 29th, nt 7:30 P, tS. in the courtroom of
the Courthwse in Hillsboro as the time and place for final approval of the 1957-1958 budget an3
sdoptian a£ the 1957 tax rate.
The Hoard set Wednesday, July 17th, as the day Tor a property inspection tour, The Tnx Supervisor
to propose a route for this trip and advise each member o£ the Board of the time and place of mantle
