Congratulations to Ms. Barnhill. We appreciate your service on this important committee. There is also and on- line application that interested citizens may fill out and submit via the internet. ♦ Posters: Enclosed are posters concerning recruitment for this Commission and other vacancies. Please distribute these posters in public places, such as doctor's offices, supermarkets, libraries, tire and auto centers, grocery stores, etc., to help increase awareness of need for citizen involvement. 3) Finalization of 2000 Human Services Forum ♦ Agenda ♦ Speakers ♦ Break Out Sessions 4. Minutes > The Human Services Advisory Commission met on July 17, 2000 at 5:30 Services Center, in Hillsborough, N.C. p.m. at the Government 1 2 Members Present: Robin Barnhill 3 , Marvin Block, Dee Gamble Lynette David Thompson, Jr., Rebecca Young. yn tte Jeffries, Deborah Kinert 4 , 5 Members Absent: Louise Echols, Mel Hurston, Barry Jacobs, Sue Russell, sell, Rosetta Wash. 7 Staff Present: Corinthia Barber, Sharron Hinton, Nancy Martin. 8 9 Staff Absent: Albert Kittrell, Assistant County Manager. 10 11 Welcome: 12 Co -Chair Debbie Kinert opened the meeting and welcome 13 updates. Louise Echols was ill and could not attend this evenin the members and asked for member 14 g 15 Debbie also mentioned that Barry Jacobs, Orange County Commissioner 16 Commission, sends his regrets that he is out of town in Georgia working and member of this 1 g and could not attend. 18 Member Introductions and Reports: 2V Dee Gamble, Board of Social Services: The Board of Social Services i 21 appointment to its Board which will be the fifth member, making a co s getting ready to make an 22 g complete Board. 23 Minutes of June 19, 2000 The minutes were approved as corrected. 24 25 Membership There was discussion about vacancies on 26 reviewed: 1) Ms.Hudson Fuller; 2) Ms. Patty M. Services Advisory 35 36 A motion was made by Dee Gamble, and seconded by Rebecca Youn 37 to recommend Ms. Hudson Fuller and Mr. Terry Hill to be a ointed and unanimously approved, 38 positions. pp t to two of the vacant at -large 39 10 Staff was instructed to contact the Directors of OPC Area Program, 11 United Way to notify them of the continued vacancies on the Human Communities -In- Schools, and �2 Services Advisory Commission. Human Services Advisory Commission July 17, 2000 Page 3 of 3 100 101 Marvin said that he may be out town on the date of the Forum, and will let the Commission know 102 regarding his plans at the August meeting. 103 104 Debbie asked Dee Gamble if she would lead a Facilitators' Training at the next meeting of the 105 HSAC, to which she agreed. Dee had led a similar Training in 1999 and it was very helpful. It was 106 the consensus of the members to have Dee lead a facilitator's training at the August meeting. 107 108 Marvin stressed the importance of having handout materials available at the Forum. Corinthia said 109 that she will follow up on that, as she did last year. 110 1 ' Other matters discussed regarding Forum planning 11- ♦ Copies of overheads that are shown by the speakers (sometimes overhead presentations are 113 hard to see) 114 ♦ Invitations will be going out the week of the 24ffi 115 ♦ Registration cost is still $10 and includes the luncheon 116 ♦ The Friday Center is reserved for the occasion 117 ♦ The.
