July 1, 1957
The Orange County Honrd of Commissioners met on Monday, July 1, 1951, at 10
o'clock A. 14, 1n the Commissioners' Room of the Courti~ouse in Hillsboro, ?i. C.
74embers present: Chairman R, J, i!. Hobbs, Commissioners Duri ght Pi. Rey, Claud T.
Pope, Donald 37. Stanford and Henry S. '.~telker,
I7embers absent: None.
The minutes for the meetings held durinfi the month of June, 1957, were read and
epnroced,
Don I4etheson, County Farm Agent, introduced Dr. Rogers, State Veterinarian,
Dr. Rogers informed the Hoard that under State requirements, Oratfie County's herds
must be tested for tuberculosis ¢nd bangs disease, Re requested that the Hord
appoint someone to help him in making these tests. Upon motion of Comma asl oner
O'elker, seconded by Commissioner Stanford and unanimously passed, it was ordered that
N300.00 be appropriated to pay the salary far a helper to assist Dr. Hogers,
A Rroup of citizens from the Oa'c Grove Corvmunity, ¢nd Frank Pen derfiraft of Chanel
Hill, presented road petitions, Those petitions and requests were referred to the
District Highvray Meeting to be held in Greensboro, I1. C „ on July 17, 1957. The
petitioners requested ¢ letter of recomrtendati on to the District Engineer, and the
Cleric was requested to carite such a letter to the District Frtgineer for these two
petitions.
I•irs. Clarence Jones of Hillsboro spoke Sn behalf of the Hillsboro Garden Club
requesting that the Hoard allot to the Carden Club ~p750,00 to be used to paint,
repair end buy equipment Tor their museum project which 1s to be located in the
Courtroom of the old Courthouse. IQrs, Jones :a as advised that a decision vrould be
made later on this request.
Ptr. A, i{, FfcAdams introduced Lir, Donald Roberts, i9anaP,er of th.e ACA oifico, who
requested that the Board allocate funds to remodel the ACA office. He gave as his
reason Tor this request the fact that the working conditions in his office were
crowded and therefore his employees were not rendering as efficient work ¢s was
possible due to constant interruptions. The Board agreed to inspect the ACA ox'fice
later in the day.
Reports for the month of June, 1951, were made by the Poll owing dap ertment officio

Odell Clayton, Sheriff.

the Clerk of Court for treatment of lnebrl etas et the State Institutions, The money,
not to exceed ;x1$0.00, is to be taken from the Emersency Fund.
Upon motion of Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner ifalker, andunanimously
passed, the following Interim Anpronri ati on resolution was introduced:
To General Fund >a 5,500.00
To 4lelfare b'unds 20,000.00
To School Funds 10,000.00
To Recorder's Court Fund 500.00
To He ¢lth Fund 1,800.00
The County Accountant is authorized and directed to nay current ordinary aspens es
against the funds above listed not exceeding amounts of tiro apnropricti ens hereby
made. Said apnr opri ati ens resolution which will be adopted not later then July 29,
1957.
Farm Agent Don Matheson was requested to represent Oran fie County at the north
Carolina Board of 4tat er Commissioners' meeting to be held in Gre gists bor o, Si, C, on
July 8, 1957•
Upon motion of Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner Yope and unanimau sly
passed, 41500,00 was annropri¢ted to the Hillsboro Garden Club for their museum project.
The Orange County 9oard of Education appeared to discuss the School Board's
budget for the fiscal year of 1957-195x.
Upon motion of Commissioner Say, seconded by Con!-;issi oner Yone and unanimously
passed, the Register of Deeds was authorized to raise tl>e fee on all certified conies
of births, deaths, end marriage certiflc etas from '•;p .50 to ;1.00.
The County Accountant was autlxorize3 to reimburse the 3e gi st er of Deeds in the
amount of x6.00 for refiistration iee charged at the 3egister of Deeds' Convention.
Upon motion, the meeting eras adjourned to meet again on Friday niFsht, July 5,
1957, at 7:3o Y. Ia.
