Welcome /Introduction
Keith Cook called the meeting to order at 6:06 p.m. The board introduced themselves and welcomed
new members.
Approval of Minutes
N.V. Parlikad made a motion to approve the March 14,2017 minutes, seconded by Keith Cook approved
unanimously. Mae McLendon made a motion to approve the minutes from the April 11, 2017 meeting,
seconded by Cain Twyman, approved unanimously. Mae McLendon made a motion to approve the May
9, 2017 minutes, seconded by Jenn Sykes, approved unanimously.
Department /County Report
Angela Rockett shared with the board that Sherrill Hampton is the new director for the Housing Human
Rights & Community Development department. She starts her new position on August 21, 2017.
Renee Holmes discussed the HOME program budget that was approved by the Board of County
Commissioners. These funds are allocated from the U.S. Department of HUD's HOME funds. Ms. Holmes
stated that the total budget is $394,656.00. The money is allocated to Habitat for Humanity, Rebuilding
Together of the Triangle, EmPOWERment, Inc. and Orange County Housing Rehabilitation and
Administration.
Keith Cook asked about the Housing Rehabilitation team. Ms. Holmes explained that the HHRCD
department has two staff currently and that the BOCC has approved the position for a Rehabilitation
Specialist. She explained that department rehabilitation program is a list of people that don't meet the
criteria for the Urgent Repair program, which is funded by the county. She stated that the Urgent Repair
program was approved to receive $100,000 from the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency.
Ms. Holmes shared that the Housing Human Rights & Community Development department will accept
applications for Homeless only from August 12 -17.
Overview for New Members
Ms. Holmes distributed the Housing Policy & Procedure to the board. More information will be
provided.
Other Business
Members of the board asked that notebooks be made for each member with staff contact information
and any information that would be helpful to the board. There was discussion about having a second
Affordable Housing Tour. Also, the board would like to invite other boards to be guest at their meeting
so they can discuss what they are doing.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, September 12, 2017. There being no further business, the meeting
was adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
