BACKGROUND: The Carrboro High School Men’s Tennis Team won the State 2A championship on May 19, 2018 with a 5-2 victory over Brevard High School, and garnering its third state championship in the past five years. The Jaguars were also state champions in 2014 and 2015. The Carrboro doubles team of Zach Anderson and Andre Javen also won the 2A State championship in the individual competition. The team is coached by Jon Noyes. FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this item. SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There is no Orange County Social Justice Goal impact associated with this item. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the attached proclamation recognizing the Carrboro High School Men’s Tennis Team for winning the 2018 State Championship, and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation on behalf of the Board. 1 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS PROCLAMATION OF RECOGNITION ON CARRBORO HIGH SCHOOL MEN’S TENNIS TEAM WINNING THE 2018 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WHEREAS, on May 19, 2018, the Carrboro High School Men’s Tennis Team won the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s 2A State Championship with a 5-2 victory over Brevard High School; and WHEREAS, the team completed its season with a 16-2 record; and WHEREAS, the doubles team of Zach Anderson and Andre Javen also won the 2A state championship in the individual competition; and WHEREAS, under the guidance of Coach Jon Noyes, the team won its third state championship in the past five years, along with the 2014 and 2015 championships; and WHEREAS, through hard work, dedication, teamwork, and commitment, the team brought honor upon themselves, Carrboro High School, the Chapel Hill/Carrboro City Schools District and Orange County; NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners expresses its sincere appreciation and respect for the Carrboro High School Men’s Tennis Team and Coach Noyes for their outstanding achievement, and their inspiration to youth across North Carolina through their dedication, teamwork, and athletic prowess.
