Monica Evans -new board appointment letter.doc Page
February 15, 2005
To: BOCC
From: Leah Rade, Arts Commission Chair
RE: Board Appointments
We would like to suggest the following four persons for appointment to the Orange
County Arts Commission:
Lauri Alexander
Tammy Lambert
Randy Owen
Katherine Poulos
Three of these volunteers would fill the newly created board positions (replacing
Adelaide Spitsbergen, Stephen Haebig, and Rosa Tattoli who are unavailable to serve)
and one would replace Sue Pickett, who has recently resigned.
All have expressed an interest in serving on our board by submitting volunteer
applications to Orange County,
Currently, our board is comprised of 4 men and 7 women.
If appointed, these volunteers would bring the following strengths tc the OCAC board:
• Lauri Alexander (arts education, real estate broker, Chapel Hill resident)
• Tammy Lambert (university connection, Hillsborough -Bingham township)
• Randy Owen (businessman, Hillsborough -Cedar Grove township)
• Katherine Poulos (performing arts, paralegal, Chapel Hill resident)
We are planning a board retreat for April 23, 2005, and would very much Tike to have
newly appointed commission members on board by that time..
Thank you so much for your consideration

Other Comments:
A resident of Orange County for over fourteen years, I arrived in Chapel Hill to attend
UNC-CH. Since graduation in 1994, I have worked in Orange County in both the retail
sector and with the university (since 1997), where I am currently employed by the
Carolina Union. I have owned a home in Orange County since 1999. I am proud of the
county's reputation, and I am eager to assist in serving on a committee working to make
Page 2 of 2 Tammy Lambert
our community even better, There are two areas in which I have particular interest; the
arts (my true passion!), and housing and community development, I am an avid arts
supporter and amateur photographer who has been collecting art for years. I understand
the importance of art in our community, and I am excited about the possibility of assisting
in the creation of new ideas and works for public display. Art plays an important part in
my daily life, both at work and at home, and I would love to extend my passion for the
arts to my work with the Arts Commission. I am familiar with the work of the
Commission, having attended various functions over the years and purchased art from
Orange County artists, The open studio tour is one of the highlights of the year for me! I
am also very much aware of the need for adequate and affordable housing in the area,
and I understand the delicate balances between the need for growth, the desire far
historic/architectural preservation, and the financial issues that face many of our
community's citizens. I am familiar with community resources such as Orange
Community Housing and Land Trust and the role that they play for university employees
and other lower-income workers, I am not, however, blind to the need for all types of
housing in the area, and I feel that I can offer balanced, educated input into such issues,
I am excited about the future of Orange County, and I look forward to working with other
community members on either the Arts Commission or the Affordable Housing Advisory
Board (both if passible, though the Arts Commission is my first choice!), STAFF

Work Experience:
I have worked several customer service positions here in North Carolina as well as New
York. My most current and last two positions were in New York, I worked as a
Merchandiser Associate in Bloomingdale's. (relocated here because of the apparent
growth and overflow of North Carolina's history. I love the quiet peace here.
Volunteer Experience:
I have volunteered with the Department of Social Services in 92-93, I have volunteered
as a Big Sister in the Governor's One-On-One,Big Brother, Big Sister program. I have
worked in afterschool programs in my community. I have worked and served with Carver
Alumuni, such as assisting with Rainbow T's, and any other community function they may
have had.
