HomeMy WebLinkAboutUnapproved Summary from September1 Orange County Animal Services 1601 Eubanks Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 919-942-PETS (7387) ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD (ASAB) 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014 Meeting Summary MEMBERS PRESENT: DeWana Anderson, Caroline Green, Beth Grooms, Judy Miller, Arthur Sprinczeles, Michelle Walker (Chair), Warren Porter (Vice-Chair) MEMBERS ABSENT: Susan Elmore, Aviva Scully, Michael Stewart STAFF PRESENT: Bob Marotto (Animal Services Director), Josh Fisher (Veterinary Health Care Manager) _____________________________________________________________________________________ Agenda: Motion to approve agenda passed and agenda unanimously approved, with the addition of a summary of the Potentially Dangerous Dog hearing Summary of August 20, 2014 meeting: Reviewed and unanimously approved General Public Comments on items not on the agenda: None ASAB Affairs (A) Recommendation for vacant animal advocate position • Nicole Roth was present and introduced herself. She does pro bono work for and is on the board of the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF). (B) Potentially Dangerous Dog Appeal Hearing • The panel heard one appeal and reversed the designation after finding that the elements of a dog’s approach in (1) a vicious or terrorizing manner and (2) an apparent attitude of attack were not met. Old Business (A) Cat Task Force • Future action was discussed, on how to continue to implement the program. Bob Marotto shared the Task Force’s preliminary report with staff, and staff comments will be shared with the Task Force (B) Unified Animal Ordinance Update • Bob Marotto gave an update on its status and explained its path forward in the future. (C) Resolution supporting Kids4Kindness School Program • No update. New Business (A) Veterinary Health Care Services: Josh Fisher • Josh Fisher gave a presentation highlighting OCAS’ Veterinary Health Care program, including an overview of services provided, a summary of annual rabies clinics, partnerships with local 2 veterinarians, an upcoming pet medical insurance opportunity for new adopters, and an update to our microchipping ability (B) Animal Services Updates—Bob Marotto Ongoing and Upcoming Events (A) Sniffer Dogs Book Discussion, September 18, Flyleaf Books in Chapel Hill (B) World Rabies Day, September 28, 2014 • Rabies, 3-5 pm, September 25, Farmer’s Market House, Hillsborough • Rabies & Microchip Clinic, 9 am - noon, September 27, Animal Services Center (C) 10th Annual Dog Swim September 13, Hargraves Community Center Meeting adjourned at: 8:05 PM Name of Minute Taker: Caroline Green
