HomeMy WebLinkAboutMeeting Summary from SeptemberOrange County Animal Services 1601 Eubanks Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 919-942-PETS (7387) ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD (ASAB) 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2013 Meeting Summary MEMBERS PRESENT: Susan Elmore (Chair), Michelle Walker (Vice-Chair), DeWanna Anderson, Judy Miller, Warren Porter, Michael Stewart, Aviva Scully MEMBERS ABSENT: Kate Doom-Patel, Suzanne Roy STAFF PRESENT: Bob Marotto (Animal Services Director) and Sarah Fallin (Program Coordinator) _____________________________________________________________________________________ Agenda: Motion to approve agenda with the addition of Fellow introductions unanimously approved Summary of August 21, 2013 meeting: Reviewed and unanimously approved General Public Comments on items not on the agenda: None Introduction of UNC Nonprofit Board Fellows for Orange County Animal Services 1. Maria Grimshaw, Ellie Nave and Steven Pray will be with us from October until April/May 2014. Orientation will be scheduled and duties will be chosen/assigned at a future date. Partner Profile 1. Pets belonging to displaced persons a. Presentation by Nick Lemmon, MSW, LCSWA-A, UNC Center for Excellence in Community Mental Health, CTI Social Worker b. Presentation by Kelly Ronnow, President of Avalo Rescue (formerly Bayou Rescue) OCAS and Kidzu Partnership 1. Animal Services has partnered with Kidzu Children’s Museum in Chapel Hill for programming and outreach. ASAB members viewed a mural (with an animal theme) in the lobby area prepared by Kidzu kids. ASAB Affairs 1. ASAB recommendations to the BOCC a. All board members were encouraged to attend BOCC meetings when important ASAB initiatives are presented. 2. Vacancies and expected vacancies a. There are three current vacancies: animal advocacy, at large (non-municipal), and certified animal handler/trainer/technician. b. ASAB members will reach out to individuals and organizations in our community in an attempt to increase diversity on the board. Animal Services Updates 1. Dog swim on 9/21/13 b. Two low cost clinics scheduled for World Rabies Day (9/26 and 9/28) c.
