PURPOSE: To recognize Orange County's Assistant Fire Marshal, Jerry Wagner, for his
service to his country in Iraq from February 2004 through December 2004.
BACKGROUND: .Jerry Wagner has served as Orange County's Assistant Fire Marshal since
November 1994. He was notified in January 2004 that his unit would deploy for service in
Southwest Asia in February 2004. Sergeant Wagner and his unit redeployed to the United
States in January 2005, and following demobilization at Fort Bragg, he returned to full-time work
with Orange County on January 31, 2005.
Approval of the attached resolution would provide formal recognition from the Orange County
Board of Commissioners of Sergeant Wagner's military service in Iraq and express appreciation
far the hardship and sacrifice that he and his family have borne during the past year in his
performance of his military duties.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board adopt the accompanying
resolution and present it to Jerry Wagner.
ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
A RESOLUTION HONORING JERRY WAGNER
FOR HIS MILITARY SERVICE IN IRAQ
WHEREAS, Jerry Wagner has been employed by Orange County and has served as Assistant
Fire Marshal since November 1994; and
WHEREAS, Jerry Wagner serves not only Orange County but also in the United States Army as
a Sergeant in Battery C, 1S` Battalion, 113`h Field Artillery Regiment of the 1S` Infantry Division;
and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Wagner and his unit were mobilized and deployed for military service in
Iraq in February 2004; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Wagner served his unit and his country through self-sacrifice and by
upholding the ideals of freedom and self-determination upon which our nation was founded; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Wagner carried out his duties of combat patrolling, farce protection,
convoy security, and fire marshal with competence and courage in a hostile fire zone; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Wagner and his fellow unit members returned from overseas service in
January 2005; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Wagner returned safely to resume his duties as Orange County's
Assistant Fire Marshal in January 2005;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Orange County Board of Commissioners
does hereby express its gratitude and appreciation to Jerry Wagner for his selfless service,
dedication to duty, loyalty, and bravery in representing his community and his country while
promoting the development of democracy in Iraq.
