SUBJECT: Board of Commissioners - Chatham Orange Joint Planning Task Force

PURPOSE: To appoint Commissioner Barry Jacobs to the Chatham Orange Joint Planning
Task Force.
BACKGROUND: The Board chose the boards and commissions that each member wanted to
serve on at its February 15, 2018 work session. Commissioner Barry Jacobs chose to serve as
the Orange County representative on the Go Triangle Board of Directors, and Commissioner
Penny Rich and Commissioner Mark Marcoplos chose to serve as the Orange County
representatives to the Chatham Orange Joint Planning Task Force. This information was
brought back to the BOCC for formal approval on the consent agenda at the March 8th BOCC
meeting. At the meeting, this item was pulled to be discussed separately. An excerpt from the
March 8th minutes is below:
8-f. Boards and Commissions - Commissioner Assignments
The Board considered approving the list of boards and commissions, on which members of the
Board of County Commissioners have chosen to serve.
Commissioner Jacobs said when the Board picked its boards and commissions last month he
said he would stay on GoTriangle, if no one else wanted it. He said Commissioner Marcoplos
has asked to serve on this board when Commissioner Jacobs is no longer doing so.
Commissioner Jacobs suggested that this appointment start now.
Commissioner Jacobs said he felt like he had a certain role that he was filling for the Board: to
corral something with which the Board was having difficulty. He said he is not sure he has
succeeded, and he suggested letting Commissioner Marcoplos become the GoTriangle
representative now.
Commissioner Marcoplos said he would like to do this.
A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Burroughs to approve
the suggested substitution to GoTriangle Board of Trustees.
VOTE: UNANIMOUS

It is now proposed for consideration that since Commissioner Marcoplos is the Orange County
Go Triangle Board of Trustees representative, he would be the GoT representative to the
Planning Task Force, and Commissioner Jacobs could now be the other BOCC representative
to the Chatham Orange Joint Planning Task Force along with Commissioner Rich.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this item.
SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There are no Orange County Social Justice Goals associated with
this item.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The recommendation is that the Board appoint Commissioner Barry
Jacobs to the Chatham Orange Joint Planning Task Force.
