ORANGE COUNTY
NORTH CAROLINA
PRESERVATION-PROGRESS•PEOPLE
Donna Baker
Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners
Orange County Government
P.O. Box 8181
Hillsborough, NC 27278
Dear Ms, Baker:
The Economic Development Commission is interested in filling several vacancies. The Chapel
Hill/Carrboro and the Hillsborough/Orange County Chambers of Commerce have recommended
Charlie Fisher as their representative on the EDC. We have not yet received a recommendation
for another designated position, representing Mebane.
For our three vacant at-large seats, we suggest:
Anita Badrock, Chapel Hill, whose work in personnel would bring expertise in workforce
development;
Bryant Colson, Hillsborough, who brings an information technology background;
W. Mark Crowell, Chapel Hill, who serves as Associate Vice Chancellor for Economic
Development and Director of the Office of Technology Development; his participation would help
make connections with new businesses being formed out of UNC.
Thanks for your help
Sincerely,
k/4
Ruffin Slater

My affection for Chapel Hill evolved during my college years here. It wasn't the students,
necessarily or the nightlife. Instead it was the town, neighborhoods, and the small
business owners and everything else that distinguishes Chapel Hill. My primary purpose
in wanting to serve on the Historic Preservation Commission is that I have an
understanding of the needs as well as the constraints that must be imposed in such an
area/ I grew up in Salisbury NC in the historic district and I have also lived in Greensville
South Carolina in a historic district there. During my tenure in college I was a member of
the Ginghaul Castle, so I know that neighborhood as well. This is something that I would
pursue with good faith efforts to improve the town as much as possible. As a side note, I
was a History and Political Science major at UNC-CH. STAFF COMMENTS: Originally
applied for Economic Development Commission and Histori Preservation Commission.

Other Comments:
As a resident of Orange County, I am very concerned about the economic development
of the county. I believe that the county needs to attract high quality jobs -- other than
those at UNC -- in order to mitigate the tax burden on the county residents. I believe that
if this is not done, Orange county will turn into an elitist county where only the upper
middle class can aford to live. STAFF COMMENTS: Originally applied for EDC.
ADDRESS VERIFICATION: 100 Robert Hunt Dr is in Chapel Hill Township in the
Carrboro City Limits.
As an individual who has reaped the benefits of high quality jobs, I know what these
organizations are looking for and how to get them to move to Orange county. I also
believe that Orange County can attract quality firms and jobs with the result being an
improvement in the quality of life for ALL county residents.
