Ln the November 6, 1956, general election I was elected Stnto Senator for the Sixteenth Senetcri¢1
District.
Although the 1957 session of the North Cerollna General Assembly does not canvens until February 6,
1957, L think it Would be well for me to submit now my resignation as a member of the Bcsrd of
Commissioners of Orange Ccuaty,
1 want to record here my soorecietian and thanks to the eeoole o£ Orange County for letting me serve
them as a number of their Beard of County Commissioners. Z taus tried to doe geed and conscientious
job Tor ell of them. Z have enjoyed my associntlons with the other members of the 3eard, ar3 I found
our mutual efforts for Orange County oleesant, interesting, and very enligttendng.
L am, also, gxateihl far Orange County's letting me have tF.e Democratic nomSnstion last .7une fcr the
State Senate, and far joining with A?erance County on Novembsr 6 in electing me to represent the
S~teenth Seneterial District, In that capacity Z siL do my best to represent sell all the neaole
in these tso counties and the whole State.
